How to Record 1080p Footage without PS4 Pro.
Recording gameplay on PS4 is easier than any previous generation of PlayStation consoles. You can simply press a button on the controller to start recording your favorite games, but there is one catch. Not all games can be recorded on PS4 with spoiler link. Another caveat with the regular PS4 is that it only records in 720p, unlike the PS4 Pro, which can natively record at 1080p. If you publish your games online but don’t have a PS4, you might want to know how to record 1080p games without a PS4 Pro. Let’s start.
This workaround will require additional equipment, a capture card. Simply put, a capture card is a video capture device that can record your gameplay through your console’s HDMI output. It takes HDMI output from PS4 as input, modifies the signal and sends it to computer via USB cable in 1080p resolution. The equipment automatically scales the footage without significant difference in quality. Video editing at 720p versus 1080p makes a huge difference.

To be honest, capture cards are not cheap and can cost anywhere from $ 80 to $ 400. I would only recommend buying a capture card if you plan on using it regularly. For recording gameplay, the built-in recording function will work well from time to time.
I used the AverMedia Live Gamer portable capture card to record 1080p video on a PS4 Slim. Any 1080p capture card will work for this step. The process for installing software and recording gameplay will be similar for most capture cards.
First, let’s install the software on your computer. Go to the capture card website and select your capture card model to download the software. You can check the model number on the back of the unit, the website also lets you choose your model by showing you a picture.

After choosing a model, install the download manager for your system from the link on the website. The download manager will install the firmware, drivers, and any prerequisite applications required to record the PS4 feed.
The download manager will automatically detect and guide you through the installation process. You will need to download all the required drivers, firmware and applications and then install the packages on your system.

After the drivers and applications have finished installing, launch the RECentral application and connect the capture card to your computer. You can start recording by clicking the big red button in the center of the window. Before we start recording footage, let’s make sure the video settings are set to 1080p. Click Wizard to open the settings.
In the setup wizard, you can select video source, audio source, platform, and video options. You can also set up hotkeys to instantly start recording at the touch of a button.
Go to the Video Settings tab, adjust the video resolution and set it to 1920 × 1080. Click the Done button and we are now ready to record a video.
After pressing the big red button, RECentral will start projecting the PS4 screen into the application window. You can start recording your gameplay by clicking the little red button at the bottom of the window. There may be a slight lag in projection, but don’t worry when the video ends, it will be as smooth as on PS4. If the game can shoot 60 frames per second, then the footage recorded will also be 60 frames per second, which is impressive.
You can save the video after pressing the stop button to the video folder. Check video file details and easily edit clips for your YouTube channel.
