You can do this by selecting the first cell and dragging the cursor over the rest. Then you will see the selected cells. Right-click one of the selected cells and select Merge Cells from the context menu.

Unmerge Cells in Google Docs on the Web
If you decide later that the merged cells don’t work, you can just as easily unmerge them. Remember that you can only unmerge cells that you have previously merged.Right-click the merged cell and select Unmerge Cells from the context menu.
Then you will see how your cells return to their original state.
How to Merge Cells in Google Docs on Android

Just like on Android, you can merge cells in the Google Docs app on iPhone and iPad in one of two ways.
- Open a document and select the table cells you want to merge by dragging the blue dot over the cells.
- If necessary, click the Edit button, and then do one of the following to merge the cells:
