How to Make Audio Files Louder

Posted on October 6, 2020 By blog_786 1 Comment on How to Make Audio Files Louder

Low volume audio files can be nearly useless and also very frustrating, especially if you can’t re-record the original audio. Whether it’s an MP3 song you’re trying to listen to on your laptop, or a recorded audio file that’s not loud enough, turning up the volume of just about any audio file can be done easily with desktop or online audio editing software. / p>

In this article, I will introduce several methods that you can use to correct audio levels for an audio file. If you only need to do this for one audio file, an online tool is your best bet. If you need more control and options, or need to adjust the volume for many files, a desktop audio editing program is probably the best choice.

Online tools

Fortunately, there are sites on the Internet that are created solely for the purpose of increasing the volume of your audio file. Here are the ones I’ve used and they work well.

MP3 louder

MP3 is louder

MP3 Louder makes it very easy to increase the volume of your audio file. Click the Browse button to select the file you want to customize, and then select the Volume Up radio button. You can also use this site to decrease the volume of an audio file.

By default, the sound will be increased by three decibels, which is recommended. Obviously, you can experiment with this setting, which goes up to 50 decibels. In addition, you can choose whether to boost each channel or just the left or right channel.

Click the Download Now button and wait a few minutes for the file to download and optimize. Once complete, you will see a green download button.

That’s all! At the moment, it is really easy to use and completely free. I’m sure there are some limits on the size of the audio file, but it should work fine 99% of the time.

Grab the tube

Another free online tool is Grab Tube. Just select your file and then choose automatic or manual normalization. If you choose Manual, you have three choices that appear as the word “loud” in larger and larger text.

The maximum MP3 file size is 40MB, so it should be enough for most people. If you have a larger MP3 file, you can always cut it into smaller pieces first and then use this tool.

You can download the audio file directly by following the link, or you can listen to the new audio file online. This is useful if the first setting was not loud enough and you need to try a higher setting.

Desktop gadgets

On the desktop, my favorite tool for editing any sound is Audacity. I have already written several articles about Audacity., including how to convert cassettes to digital and how to record audio from your PC. Using Audacity., it is very easy to increase the volume of your audio file.

Courage

Daring

Another benefit of using a tool like Audacity. is that you can only increase the volume of a part of a track, not the whole. Online instruments will amplify anything that can cause some parts to be too loud and therefore cut off.

Open Audacity. and load the audio file into the program. If you want to amplify the entire track, do not select anything. If you only need to amplify a portion of a track, select that portion by clicking and dragging your mouse over the blue area.

Now click Effect at the top and then click Amplify in the list of effects.

Here you can move the slider to select the amount of gain in decibels. Please note that if the audio is clipped because it is too loud, the OK button will turn gray unless you check the Allow clipping box. If you want to amplify an audio file in Audacity. without clipping the audio, you either need to select only the low part or use the audio compressor first.

An audio compressor will reduce the difference between the lowest point and the highest (loudest) point on the track. Audacity., of course, has a built-in compressor feature. Just click Effect and choose Compressor. You can read here about how the compressor works in Audacity.

Once you do this, you can try to amplify the sound again. Also, try to allow cropping once and see how it sounds. Sometimes, even with clipping, the sound will be acceptable.

In general, adjusting the volume of an audio track is a simple task, but getting the correct result can be a little more difficult. Always remember to save the original audio file so you can easily revert to it if you don’t like the settings. If you have any questions, please leave a comment. Enjoy!
