How to Make a Spotify Blend Playlist With Another User.
Choosing what to listen to when someone else is involved can be a difficult task, especially if your musical tastes are very different. Spotify has created a solution to this problem with what they call “Blend” playlists. These are special shared playlists that you can create with another user or Spotify users who collect songs from your libraries into one playlist. Spotify is also ditching its old Family playlists, replacing them with Blends.
They are easy to create with friends and you can see whose library the songs in the playlist come from. Playlists tend to be a mixture of songs from each person’s library, especially songs that both of you may have saved and updated daily.
You can also edit playlists to your liking and see how similar your and your friend’s musical tastes are. Spotify even lets you create Blend playlists with some artists that have an invite link. Below, we will show you how to create a Spotify Blend playlist, add friends, and also create a Blend playlist with an artist.
How to Create a Blend Playlist
Make sure your Spotify app is fully up to date so you can access Blend’s playlist feature. Also, find a friend willing to make one of these playlists with you. To create it, do the following:
Go to the “Search” tab and enter “Mix”.
1 – Click on the “Blend” genre.
2 – Click “Create Blend” at the top.
3 – Click on the “Invite” button.
You can send the link to someone else via messages, email, or copy it to share anywhere.
Once they join Blend, you can find the playlist in your library.
If you want, you can just as easily add more people to your Blend playlist.
In the Blend playlist you created, click the add button, which looks like a person with a plus sign.
Click “Invite More”.
Send an invitation link to another user.
Once they join, their music will also be added to your Blend playlist. You can add up to ten people to a playlist. You can view the “history” of your Blend playlist by clicking on the moving circle icon right above the playlist title. This will show you how similar your musical tastes are with a taste matching score. You can also share your mix on social media by clicking on the ellipsis icon and then selecting “Share”.
Make a Blend Playlist With an Artist
One fun thing about these Blend playlists is that some artists have Blends that you can create with them. This way you can see how similar your music library is to some of your favorite artists! They are easy to make, the artist you want to create a Blend playlist with just needs to have an invite link available.
Spotify has a blog post with artists that have an invite link available such as Charli XCX and BTS, but you can also find them on the artist page on Spotify. Once you find the link, do the following:
Tap the link to open an invite in the Spotify app.
Click “Go to Blending”.
This will open your Blend playlist with the artist.
You can find the playlist in your library under “Playlists”.
You can always remove the Artist Blend playlist from your profile by clicking the “Like” button to undo it.
How to Leave a Blend Playlist
If for any reason you don’t want to be on the Blend playlist or want to exclude it from your profile, you can always leave Blend.
To do this, simply navigate to the Blend playlist you want to leave, click on the three dots below the playlist’s title, then click Quit Blend.
From there, the playlist will be removed from your profile and you will no longer have access to it unless you follow the invite link again.
Use Blend Playlists to Share Music With Friends
These playlists are a great way to combine your music libraries and your friend’s music libraries, especially since they are updated daily to accommodate your changing listening habits. This can make choosing music to listen to together really easy, as your Blend playlist is sure to find something you have in common.
And even if you don’t use the same music, the songs selected from each library will usually belong to similar genres. Mixed playlists can help even the pickiest of music listeners to listen to songs with friends.
