Discord has evolved into one of the most powerful web chat and video platforms, diverting a chunk of the market from services like Skype and Telegram. Prior to that, users relied on Discord alternatives like Ventrilo and TeamSpeak, which are now virtually dead.
Initially offering features specifically for gamers, Discord recently shifted its focus and changed its tagline to “Chat for Communities and Friends.” This broader approach could lead to wider appeal, and Discord definitely has the features you need to go mainstream.
Among those features, the Rich Presence status on Discord has gone from showing friends what games users are currently playing to showing the song they’re listening to, and more. Thanks to third-party integrations, you can create your own Discord status posts to show your friends what users are doing on almost any site on the Internet.
In this article, let’s take a look at how users can show what they are currently doing on YouTube, Twitch, and more in a custom Discord status.
Create a custom dispute case with PreMiD
PreMiD is a two-part standalone application and plugin for Chrome / Firefox that adds additional functionality to Discord statuses.
Discord presence status is a status message that automatically updates based on user action. Rich presence capabilities allow users to interact with activities such as joining games or listening to songs. The simpler presence option will simply indicate which song is being listened to or which movie is being watched.
With a standalone app and browser plugin, PreMiD connects to Discord and allows users to update their presence status based on what they are doing in the browser.
To get started with PreMiD, go to the Downloads section of its website. Both the app and the browser extension must be installed. The app is available for OS X, Windows and Linux, and a browser extension is available for all Chromium and Firefox browsers.
After installing the app and the associated extension, we recommend users to quickly restart their browser to make sure it recognizes that the standalone app is installed. Then the PreMiD icon should appear in the browser extension bar. When you click on it, general settings and a list of preset presences will appear.
PreMiD comes with pre-installed presences: Netflix, SoundCloud, Twitch, YouTube, and YouTube Music. Before investigating additional presences, we recommend that users check if PreMiD works on their system.
To do this, users can go to SoundCloud, find any song – at least one that doesn’t bother them, since it will be shown publicly – and let it play. The user’s Discord status should then update to show that they are “playing†on the SoundCloud website.
The user profile extension will show the Rich Presence including the song’s artist, name, and the remaining duration of the song. If this is displayed, then PreMiD is installed correctly. However, the PreMiD Presence Store has hundreds of other places worth checking out.
To upload your new presence and create your own Discord status, simply click on the presence name and then click the Add Presence button on the next page.
Or just hover your mouse over the presence header and this button will appear. Presence will be instantly added to the PreMiD browser extension, enabled by default. There are 454 of them available, including the following:
- Steam
- Crunchyroll
- Wikipedia
- Roblox
- GitHub
- Mixer
After installing an extension from the store, you can disable it if you want by clicking the slider icon next to it. It can also be removed entirely by clicking the gear icon and then the trash can icon next to the corresponding presence name.
Change your disagreement status with PlayStationDiscord
Discord has built-in console support for Xbox, but PlayStation is completely excluded. However, a third-party open source app solves this problem and allows users to show which PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, or PlayStation Vita game they are currently playing with a customizable Discord status.
PlayStationDiscord is an application that allows you to do this, and it works on Windows, macOS and Linux. Users only need to download one offline file from the website.
When launching PlayStationDiscord for the first time, users must log into their PlayStation account. Please note that this does not send information to the PlayStationDiscord app, but directly to Sony’s web servers. Since this is an open source project, users can feel secure while doing this.
After logging in and each time they launch the app, users will be greeted with a screen that displays their PlayStation Network avatar and buttons to register or turn off Rich Presence status.
This is it! Now, just leave the app running – which can be minimized to the Windows taskbar – and PlayStationDiscord will automatically send the user’s in-game status to Discord for everyone to see.
For anyone trying to showcase their online activity, PreMiD is a fantastic third-party Discord add-on that supports nearly every popular social media and media site, and PlayStationDiscord is the best way to showcase the game you’re playing on modern Sony consoles.
