How to Install Chrome OS on Any Windows Laptop or PC.
Chrome OS is undoubtedly the fastest desktop operating system. It is lightweight, easy to use, and not overly resource intensive like Windows or Mac. This makes it a great OS to install on your old PCs and Macs that lags and drains your battery.

On top of that, you can get additional benefits like unlocking your computer with your Android phone and seamlessly switching devices while browsing. But the official Chrome OS that Google uses on its Pixelbooks (and allows other OEMs to install on Chromebooks) isn’t available for everyone to download. As there are also some hardware requirements that only Chromebooks have.

While we cannot install Chrome OS, we can install the open source Chromium OS software that anyone can install, modify, and use as they see fit. But this requires some technical knowledge. Fortunately, we have many developers who have modified Chromium OS and made it easier to install.
Among them, the two best forks of Chromium OS are Neverware Cloud Ready and Flint’s Fyde OS.
Google Chrome OS vs. Cloud-Ready vs. Fyde OS
Just like Google Chrome OS, they also developed an OS based on the open source Chromium OS project. They take source code from Chromium and add their own code to create a working OS. They look and work just like Chrome OS, and their best advantage over Chrome OS is that you can install them on a variety of hardware.
Cloud-Ready is developed by Neverware and is secure, easy to install, and has great documentation. And they also update the OS quite often. It is the most stable Chromium OS fork you can find, and undoubtedly the most famous of them all. But there is one caveat: while you can run Linux apps on this OS, you cannot install Android apps on it. Neverware has said it will support Android apps in the future, but there are currently no signs of such an update.
Fyde OS was first introduced as Flint OS by London-based Flint Innovations. They developed an OS for the Chinese market. When Chrome OS started supporting Android apps, they added Android app support to Flint OS and renamed it Fyde OS. In addition, you can even install Fyde OS on Rasberry Pi and ASUS Thinker Board along with PC and virtual machine software. But the UI is slightly different from Chrome OS and also from an unstable OS.
Cloud-Ready is the best plug you can find to install, but if Android apps are that important to you, you might want to pick Fyde OS as your second best alternative.
How to install Cloud-Ready on any PC or laptop
1. Go to the Neverware website, scroll down to Personal Home Use. Click here. You can also follow this link.
2. Here you can see download links for Windows, Mac and Chromebook.
3. Under Windows, download the USB Maker application and install it on your Windows PC like any other application.
4. Select 64-bit or 32-bit depending on your computer.
5. Connect a USB storage device and click Next. If this happens, the data on the USB drive will be lost, so please back up your data first.
6. This process will download CloudReady files from the Internet and can take up to 20 minutes. When the process is complete, click Finish.
7. You are ready to install Cloud Ready OS from your USB stick.
8. Shut down the computer on which you want to install the OS and boot it from USB. To do this, you need to change the boot order in BIOS.
9. Leave the USB drive first in the boot order to boot the device from USB.
10. After the device has booted via USB, you can almost see the Cloud Ready interface, then click “Let’s Go” to get started. This may take a few minutes as the OS boots from USB. Connect to the Internet using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi.
12. The OS will check for the latest updates and then ask you to sign in using the email address associated with your Google account. I recommend that you don’t log in right away.
13. You can use the cloud-ready OS every time this way by booting directly from a USB stick. Therefore, if you do not want to install to your hard drive, you can continue to login. But if you want to erase all windows and install Cloud Ready Natively on the system, read this article.
Installing the part is so easy, but now just check if the whole device is working properly. Check your Wi-Fi, keyboard, mouse or trackpad, etc. If something doesn’t work as expected, it might be a hardware compatibility issue, so don’t install the OS as it’s incompatible with your hardware.
However, if everything is in order, you can proceed to the next step of installing Chrome OS. Most computers work fine.
Also, do not forget to back up your computer data to the cloud or to an external hard drive, after installing the OS, all your data on the computer will be lost.
14. To install, click the time in the lower right corner and click the “Install OS” radio button in the quick setting panel.
15. Then click on SET CLOUD READY again.
After the process is complete, turn off the device, remove the USB storage device and turn on the device again. You can see that Cloud Ready has been successfully installed on your computer.
To enable Linux, you can find the Virtual Box in the app drawer, open and install the Virtual Box.
Then you can choose the OS you want to open, including Linux.
How to install Fyde OS on any computer or laptop.
First things first, Fyde OS is not compatible with Mac. Thus, only PC users can download and install it. And it’s not as easy to install as Cloud Ready.
1. First you need to download two files.
Open the Fyde OS website and download the ISO file. This website will be in Chinese, but you can translate it using Google Translate or just download it by clicking the first button.
Then open the Etcher website and download the Etcher app.
2. Open The Witcher and select the image, which is the iso file that we downloaded from the Fydeos website.
3. Connect your USB storage, select the USB storage as the target and click Flash. (Data on the USB stick will be lost in the process, so back up your data first)
4. When the process is complete, reboot the device from the USB drive. To complete this step, you need to change the boot order.
5. After the system boots, you can see the Fyde OS interface. (this may take a few minutes as the OS is USB powered)
6. The website is currently in Chinese, click the globe icon (International icon) to change.
Then select your language from the drop-down menu and click OK.
7. Now click “Let’s Go” and connect to the Internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
9. Unlike Cloud – Ready, you need to have a separate Fyde account. To create an account, click Advanced Options and then Create Account.
10. Log in to your account. From here, you can use the entire Fyde OS. But it is still not installed on the hard drive.
11. To install, restart the device and press Ctrl + Alt + F2 when the Fyde OS logo appears to switch to command line mode.
8. Use “Chronos” as username and password. Then enter the command “isblk” and press “Enter”. 9. Find the physical disk. It will probably show up as sd x. You can also determine the size of the disk space and the number of partitions. The following command will accept “sda” as the label. 10. Enter the following command: sudo / usr / sbin / chromeos-install –dst / dev / sda 11. The installation script asks if you want to continue and prompts you to clean up the target disk. If you are sure, enter Y and press Enter to confirm.
12. When the installation is complete, reboot the device by removing the USB drive.
You have already installed OS Fyde.
But there is still no support for Android and Linux apps. Don’t worry, you can turn them on easily.
Enabling Android Application Support
1. Android app support is already available. You can download apks and install, but no Play Store.
2. You just need to download the unpublished Play Store by downloading the Play Store apk file. Or you can even download the Nova Launcher to access the Play Store from it.
Enabling Linux application support 1. Open Chrome and open a new Windows in incognito mode 2. Enter “chrome: // flags / # enable-experimental-crostini-ui†and enable the flag 3. Chrome will ask for a restart to take effect 4. After restarting, open the Chrome OS System Preferences. 5. Search for “Linux” and you should see a “Linux (beta)” section. 6. Open it and select the “Enable” option. 7. Now install Linux (beta) and confirm 8. Linux terminal will be installed in a few minutes.
By default, Fyde OS’s search engine is set to bing by default, you can change this Google in your browser settings if you want.
