Google Chrome extensions can be very useful and interesting; just take a look at these awesome Chrome extensions to see some examples. But how do you get them, and more importantly, how do you uninstall extensions that you don’t need or need?
Below is a complete guide to installing Chrome extensions. There are several ways to do this, but for most people, adding a new Chrome extension to your browser will only take a few seconds.
You will also learn how to do the opposite: uninstall Chrome extensions that you no longer need. You can uninstall a Chrome extension if you installed it by accident, never used it, or was enabled during malware installation.
Note. Chrome extensions also work in some other Chrome-based browsers like Opera
How to install a chrome extension
There are several ways to install a Chrome extension, but first we’ll look at the “normal†method.
Step 1. Select a Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store
– /
Step 2. Click the “Add to Chrome” button.
Step 3. Select “Add Extension” when you see the pop-up installation window.
To add your own custom Chrome extension, you must first enable ad hoc mode so that Chrome will allow you to import raw files:
Step 1. Select the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of Chrome.
Step 2. Select “More Tools” “Extensions”.
Step 3. Click the button next to Developer Mode at the top of the page.
Step 4. Click the “Download unpacked” button.
Step 5. Find and select the folder containing the Chrome extension files.
Step 6. Select “Choose folder”.
Follow these steps to install a Chrome extension that is not in the folder, such as a CRX file that you downloaded from a third-party site or packed yourself:
Step 1. Repeat steps 1-3 above (for the second set of directions).
Step 2. From the extensions screen, drag the CRX file onto the page.
Step 3. Select “Add Extension”.
Make Chrome extensions work incognito
Chrome extensions are not enabled in incognito mode. At least not by default. But if you want, you can force Chrome to enable incognito extensions in the extensions page:
Step 1. Open the extensions page using the instructions above. Do it from a regular Chrome window (not in incognito mode).
Step 2. Click the “Details” button next to the required extension.
Step 3. Scroll down to the Allow in Incognito option and enable it by clicking the button on the right.
How to uninstall a chrome extension
Removing extensions from Chrome is easy. You can do this in a extremely simple way from the toolbar, but if the extension is not showing there is another way to access the delete option. Both are described below.
Note. As we said above, one of the reasons for removing the extension from Chrome is that it was accidentally added to your computer by malware. In such a case, remember to remove the virus or other malware before it causes further damage or annoyance.
Do you see the extension icon in the toolbar? If so, right-click it and select “Remove from Chrome ” from the drop-down menu.
If you don’t see the extension’s icon, you may have hidden it. Another reason is that you are in incognito mode and the extension is not configured to be used there (i.e. if it only works in normal mode, which is the default setting for all extensions).
Fortunately, there is another way to remove the extension. For Chrome extensions that are currently not visible, open the Extensions page to see all installed extensions:
Step 1. Select the Chrome menu with three dots and select More Tools Extensions.
Step 2. Find the extension you want to remove.
Step 3. Click the “Delete” button.
Step 4. Confirm the deletion by clicking “Delete” again.
