How To Get Windows 10X File Explorer on Windows 10.
Windows 10X is aimed at a complete redesign of Windows optimized for dual-screen and foldable devices. You can even install the Windows 10X emulator on your Windows 10 to experience it yourself. One of the biggest changes in 10X is File Explorer, it’s minimal and reminiscent of the file browsers on smartphones. In this article, I’ll show you how to get Windows 10X Explorer for Windows 10. Let’s get started.
How to get Windows 10X File Explorer on Windows 10
Windows 10X has two file browsers, one is regular explorer and the other is a beta version that only supports one drive at the moment. Since there is no perfect port for the OneDrive version, we’ll install the first one.
To get Windows 10X File Manager, the only requirement is Windows 10 64-bit. It works on all versions of Windows 10 including Professional, Home, etc. It works even with AMD based systems (whereas the Windows 10X emulator only supports Intel).
Make sure your device supports Hyper-V. To test, open a Command Prompt, type “systeminfo.exe” and press Enter. Now under Hyper-V Requirements, if you see YES, you can go ahead and enable Hyper-V.
If the option says No, you can use the following links to enable Hyper V from BIOS. After switching on, check again if the parameter says “Yes” or “No”.
- Hardware Virtualization
- Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
- Hardware Data Execution Prevention (DEP)
After activating the feature from the BIOS, enable the Hyper-V feature by going to Control Panel Programs Programs and Features Turn Windows features on or off Enable Hyper-V.
Now open Settings on your computer Update & Security Windows Update, make sure it’s up to date and restart your computer.
The Windows 10X File Manager is built into Windows Update and you can access it via the RUN dialog by pressing Win + R.
Just paste the following command into the Run dialog box and click OK. explorer shell: AppsFolder c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy! App
Viola, Windows 10X’s new explorer at its best. Since it’s hidden deep in Windows Updates, you can’t use it as your default explorer, but you can use it to browse at any time.
Right-click the new File Explorer icon in the taskbar and select Pin to Taskbar. So you can use it every day.
Alternative method
In my experience, this new app is really fast and responsive. However, this is not the case on my other device. If you are unable to install this new file manager, please try Files UMP app on Microsoft store. It’s not exactly the app you get on Windows 10X, but it comes in second.
Last words
This new file manager is minimal and works great with touchscreen laptops. However, there are also disadvantages. For example, this version doesn’t support OneDrive and a few other small features like multiple layouts, hiding items, etc. Anyway, if you want to try something new and clean, this is one of the good alternatives.
So, what do you think of the new file explorer and what features you think are missing from the new one, let me know in the comments.
