How to Get Capes in Minecraft.Minecraft capes are decorative items that can be worn over the player’s skin. Official capes can only be obtained through very specific actions, such as transferring your account or attending a personal MINECON event. In this article, we will explain how to get capes in Minecraft, covering all types of official capes that have been released to date.
How to Get a Minecraft Cape
Minecraft capes are rare cosmetic items that the player wears on their back in the game. Since they are in the same place, these much coveted items also change the appearance of the elytra.Previously released raincoats for Minecraft Java Edition and Minecraft Bedrock Edition include the Mojang raincoats (provided to Mojang employees) and the MINECON raincoats. MINECON wraps were handed out personally to attendees of MINECON events. The last of these events took place in 2016, and there is no other way to get these capes. There have also been a number of special capes given to certain Minecraft players by its developers for the services they provided in the development of Minecraft. For example, players could request the Founder’s Cape from the Minecraft marketplace when it was used as a promotion for a character creation tool. However, since they are unattainable, we will not consider them in this article. Just be aware that if you help add content to Minecraft, you may be rewarded with a cape! Finally, there are more skins available in Bedrock Edition because they have been added through various skin packs over the years.Note. You can access custom capes with add-ons like the OptiFine mod that adds new skins to Minecraft. However, since they are not official, they are only visible to the player using the mod. Official capes are visible to all players on any Minecraft servers.
Available and Upcoming Minecraft Capes
Currently, there aren’t many cloaks that players can get their hands on. However, there is at least one cape that any player can get – all they need is a Minecraft account for the Bedrock Edition!
Pan Cape
The Pan Cape is the simplest free cape for a Minecraft player as it is available to any Bedrock Edition player. To get it, simply go to the Capes tab in the dressing room in Bedrock Edition. It will be worn over your current Minecraft skin.
Capes from the Minecraft Store
Whether you’re playing Bedrock on Android, iOS, or desktop, some purchasable Minecraft skins come with capes. Two examples are the Adventure Time Mash-up and the Star Wars Classic Pack.
Minecraft Festive Cloak
Rumor has it that the Minecraft Festival cape will be given to the attendees of the Minecraft Festival convention in Orlando. The date for this congress has not yet been set, so stay tuned to find out how you can get it.
Previously Released Capes
There are several previously released raincoats that are no longer available, but may become available again in the future. Similarly, since raincoats are often given away at events, knowing about previous raincoats can give you an idea of what to expect in the future.
Cape Settler
The Migrant Cape was awarded to players who purchased Minecraft before December 1, 2020 and transferred their Mojang account or legacy Microsoft account to a Microsoft account. Unfortunately, since the Minecraft account migration is complete, this cape is no longer obtainable.
Vanilla Cloak
In 2022, the Bedrock and Java versions were merged into one Minecraft launcher. Players who owned both editions received the Vanilla Cape. Unfortunately, this cloak is no longer obtainable, even if you own both versions.
Wraps for events
Several capes have been released as temporary capes for all players, including:
- Christmas Cape 2010
- Christmas Cape 2011
- Multiple April Fools’ Capes
- MINECON Capes

Minecraft Mods
Several mods make it possible to equip capes and even create your own cape designs from scratch. Here are two examples of mods that allow you to do this:
- OptiFine
- Advanced Cloak Mod
Note. As mentioned above, any mod capes will be invisible to other online players, including your Minecraft friends.
Keep Your Eye Out
Getting your own cape in Minecraft can be tricky, but definitely worth it. Having a cape that no one else has is a sign that you’ve done something that most other players haven’t – you either put in the effort to attend a Minecraft event, helped the Minecraft developers create something for the game, or you did something else special to get it.
