How to get Dark Mode in Microsoft Teams
The toggle for enabling background blur in the free version of Microsoft Teams is different from the paid version. Moreover, unlike Skype, you cannot always enable Background Blur at this time. Hence, you will have to do this every time you make a video call or video conference.
There is no Blur Background option in Linux and mobile apps for Microsoft Teams yet.
1. During a video call, click the three buttons at the far right of the floating panel. In the advanced menu, click Background Effects.
2. On the background effects page, you will see a set of background effects. The very first option is “Blur the background”. Click on it, and the video stream will restart, and you should get a blurry background.
Like Skype, Blur my Background in Teams is AI powered. So, the app quickly detects human faces and tries to blur everything else.
Besides the Blur Background option, you also have your own background. Obviously when you select them, it replaces your original background. But surprisingly I found it to be much better than the Zoom virtual background. Thus, the virtual background Zoom identifies a specific color and replaces it with a custom background. This is similar to the chroma key you get in video editing apps.
However, in Microsoft Teams, it cuts out the human object and overlays it on a custom background. Hence, it appears to be nearly perfect and this mechanism handles head movement with ease. But having said that, he has difficulty when you pick up your hand or other inanimate objects such as cell phones or microphones.
