How to fix YouTube notifications not working on your iPhone? Six easy ways to fix it.
If you have YouTube installed on your iPhone, you will be notified when your favorite YouTube channel posts new content. YouTube will also send personalized video recommendations, account activity, and product updates through the app. You can use the solutions in this guide to detect and fix when YouTube notifications are not working on your iPhone.

YouTube-related issues can be tricky but impossible to fix. There are three main factors that can prevent YouTube from delivering notifications to your iPhone: your account settings, device settings, and channel settings.
We’ll show you how to configure these settings for optimal delivery of YouTube notifications to your iPhone. But first of all, make sure you are signed in to your Google Account in the YouTube app. Also make sure that Do Not Disturb is turned off.
Note. The solutions below can also be applied to fix YouTube notification issues on iPad.
1. Check iPhone Notification Settings
First, you need to make sure your YouTube notification settings are correctly configured at the system level. Go to Settings> YouTube> Notifications and make sure Allow Notifications is turned on.
If this setting is already on, turn it off and on again. This can help get the YouTube notification back to normal. Also, make sure you check all notification options (lock screen, action center, and banners) under alerts and enable sounds and icons.
You can also enable YouTube notifications from within the app. Launch YouTube and tap the bell icon on the home screen.
Click the “Turn on notifications” button to turn on the YouTube notification on your iPhone.
2. Check the YouTube In-App Notification Settings
YouTube lets you customize push notifications for specific actions: video recommendations, follow-up highlights, mentions, and more. If you’re not getting notifications for certain actions, go to YouTube settings and review your notification settings.
1. Launch YouTube and tap the profile icon in the upper right corner of the app.
2. Select “Settings”.
3. Scroll down the menu and tap Notifications.
4. Review the list and enable the notifications you want to receive.
If the notification you didn’t receive was already on, turn it off and back on.
Also, make sure you turn off the Mute Sounds and Vibrations option.
If this setting is enabled, YouTube will not send you notifications during certain times of the day – typically from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am every day.
3. Review Channel Notification Settings
If you are not receiving alerts for video downloads or live streams from a channel you are subscribed to, go to your account settings and check if alerts are enabled for that channel.
1. Tap the profile icon in the upper corner and go to Settings> Notifications> Channel Settings.
2. You will find a list of channels to which you are subscribed; click “Manage” to display their notification status.
If the bell icon next to the affected channels is crossed out, you will not receive notifications when the channel is active.
3. Tap the bell icon and select “All” or “Personalized”.
- Personalized notification means you will receive notifications for certain video downloads, live streams, and other activities. YouTube will post episodic highlights of the channel’s activities. These highlights are automatically generated by YouTube algorithms based on the popularity of certain videos, the frequency of video views on a channel, interactions with the channel, and other factors.
- All notifications, as you might guess, mean you will be notified of all channel activity – content uploads, live streams, etc.
Note. If the bell icon next to a channel is grayed out, it is most likely because the channel is creating content aimed at children. You cannot turn on notifications for channels that target children. By default, the notification is set to No Notifications and you cannot change it.
4. Click Finish to save your channel notification settings.
4. Turn Off YouTube Incognito Mode
YouTube has an incognito mode that allows you to watch videos privately on your iPhone. In incognito mode, YouTube does not store your browsing history, searches, subscriptions, etc. in your account. In fact, the YouTube application acts as if you were logged out of your account. Incognito mode may also pause some of your account settings, such as channel and video notifications.
This may be the reason why you don’t receive YouTube notifications if you forgot to turn off Incognito Mode. Although YouTube automatically turns off Incognito Mode after 90 minutes of inactivity, you may not receive notifications during this 90-minute window.
If there is a mask icon in the upper right corner of the YouTube app, it means that incognito mode is turned on.
Tap the mask icon and tap Disable Incognito.
5. Update the YouTube App
YouTube may not deliver notifications if the app contains some bugs or bugs. YouTube releases updates from time to time that fixes these bugs and improves the performance of the app. Go to the App Store (or click this link) to check if an update is available for YouTube.
Refresh YouTube and check if that fixes the notification issue. If the problem persists, restart your iPhone and try again.
6. Update iOS
Major iOS updates, especially the earliest versions, are not always stable. They sometimes come with bugs that affect device functionality such as app notifications, messaging, etc. The good thing is that these issues don’t last long as Apple releases bug fixes in subsequent iOS releases.
If all troubleshooting methods fail and YouTube notifications are still not working, we recommend updating your iPhone (or iPad). Go to Settings> General> Software Update and click Download & Install to update your device.
Never Miss An Update
We’ve highlighted common causes of YouTube notifications problems on iPhone and how to fix them. At least one of the recommendations listed above should restore YouTube notifications to normal on your iPhone or iPad. If the problem persists, uninstall YouTube and re-download the app from the App Store.
