Fullscreen issues can occasionally occur in the YouTube app and its mobile site YouTube.com. Use the fixes below to fix them.

Spread fingers: Tap the video bar with two fingers and move them apart to enter full screen mode. screen mode.Pinch out: Spread two fingers apart and pinch them together to exit full screen mode.
Depending on the browser, the above gestures may not work with the YouTube mobile site on iPad. Instead, double-click the video bar if you’re using a mouse or touchpad to enter and exit full screen mode.
Force-Quit YouTube
The best way to fix YouTube full screen issues – or any other YouTube issues, for that matter – on iPad is to force close the YouTube app and restart it.
To do this, open the app switcher (swipe up from the bottom of the screen) and drag the YouTube card to the top of the screen. Then open the YouTube app again and check if full screen mode works.
If the problem occurs in your web browser, try closing and opening YouTube in a new tab. If that doesn’t work, force close and restart your browser.
Clear Browser Cache
A corrupted browser cache can also cause unusual YouTube behavior, so try deleting it. In Safari, open the Settings app and select Safari > Clear History and Website Data.
If you’re using Chrome, open the Chrome menu and select Settings > Privacy > Clear Browsing Data. Then set the Time Range to All Time, select the Cookies, Site Data, and Cached Images & Files categories, and click Clear Browsing Data.
Disable Content Blockers
Content blocking extensions in Safari can also cause YouTube fullscreen issues. Tap the AA icon to the left of the URL bar and select “Disable Content Blocking” to make the site load without them.
If it helps, you can set Safari to download YouTube without blocking content by default. Open the AA menu again, click “Website Settings” and turn off the switch next to “Use Content Blockers”.
Update YouTube
Using an outdated version of the YouTube app on iPad is a surefire way to cause playback issues and other anomalies. So, open the App Store and search for YouTube. If you see a new update, click Update.
Refresh your browser in the same way if you’re still having trouble getting full screen experience on the YouTube mobile site. If you are using a third party browser such as Chrome or Firefox, you can update through the App Store. If you’re using Safari, you’ll need to update your iPad’s system software (more on that below).
Restart iPad
If YouTube fullscreen issues persist, it’s a good idea to restart your iPad. Open the Settings app, tap General > Shut down, and drag the Power slider to the right. When the screen goes dark, hold down the side button until you see the Apple logo.
Force-Restart iPad
If YouTube freezes in full screen mode and causes iPad to freeze, you need to force restart the system software. Immediately press and release the volume up and down buttons in rapid succession, and then immediately press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. If you’re using an iPad with a home button, you should instead press and hold the side button and the home button until the device restarts.
Update iPad
YouTube’s problems with fullscreen can stem from underlying issues with iPadOS, especially if you’re also facing similar issues with other video streaming services like Netflix. You can try to fix this by updating your iPad. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and click Download and Install to install any pending iPadOS updates.
Uninstall/Reinstall YouTube
Another way to fix YouTube fullscreen issues is to uninstall and reinstall the YouTube app. To do this, go to Settings > General > App Store > YouTube and click “Delete App” or “Unload App” (choose the latter option if you have any downloads you want to keep) . Then re-download YouTube via the App Store.
Reset iPad Settings
If none of the above fixes worked, you need to reset all settings on your iPad. This should fix any corrupted or conflicting system configurations preventing YouTube from working properly.
So, open the Settings app and go to General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings. Then enter your device password and click Reset All Settings again to confirm.
After your iPad restarts, reconnect to any wireless networks and change your privacy, security, and accessibility settings. See if you can then use YouTube in full screen mode.
Best Experienced In Full Screen
YouTube fullscreen issues on iPad are usually due to random software glitches, so quick fixes like force quitting the YouTube app or restarting system software will help you resolve them in most cases. If not, there will definitely be other fixes.
In any case, keep YouTube, your browser, and iPadOS up to date to minimize the chance of similar problems in the future.
