Getting the blue screen of death is bad. But with that, at least your computer will tell you that something is wrong. On the other hand, if you have a black screen of death, you are on your own. You can only guess what the problem is.
Let’s take a look at the causes and fixes for the black screen of death error in Windows 10. That way, you can fix the problem without turning off your computer immediately.
See if your computer is working
Find out if your computer is working
A possible cause of the black screen problem is that the setup process during Windows 10 setup is not yet complete. If you have large data files from an earlier Windows installation, don’t be surprised if the installation takes hours of your time.
If you didn’t know this, then you decided that Windows is already installed. If so, then that must be the reason why you now have a black screen. The solution is to find out if your computer is working.
- Find the LED that indicates hard drive activity. Now, notice this.
- If this indicator is blinking, it means that the installation process is still in progress. In this case, all you have to do is wait for it to complete.
- If it does not light up, it means the installation process is stuck and cannot proceed any further.
- Use the power button to turn off the computer. If it does not turn off as usual, press and hold the power button for five to ten seconds.
- Disconnect from the network by unplugging the Ethernet cable and disconnecting all wireless adapters.
- Disconnect other peripherals as well. This includes game controllers and external hard drives.
- Also unplug the power cord from the computer. Then wait about thirty seconds to do it all over again.
- Reconnect the power cord, peripherals, wireless adapters, and Ethernet cable. Turn on your computer and reinstall Windows.
- First press the Windows key.
- Then press ctrl, shift and B.
- First press the Windows key and select Device Manager.
- Scroll down until you find display adapters. Expand this section by clicking the arrow next to it.
- Select your display adapter here. Right-click it and select Remove Device.
- After deletion, right-click this section again. Then select “Scan for hardware changes†to reappear so you can reinstall it.
- To resolve this issue, go to Device Manager again.
- Go to the Display Adapters section and expand it. Select your display adapter and right-click it. Now select “Update Driver”.
- To resolve this issue, press the Windows key and launch the Task Manager.
- You can also press ctrl, shift and esc. This will also open the Task Manager.
- Check for the RunOnce.exe process here. If it is running, right-click it and select Stop.
- Restart your computer for the changes to take effect. You can do this by clicking the restart button.
- Another option is to let the Task Manager lead the way. First go to “File”.
- Select Start New Task.
- Enter cmd and click OK.
- In the Command Prompt window, type shutdown -r -t 01 and press Enter.
