Working in a corporate environment as an IT support professional always means you run into weird problems that never occur on a typical consumer PC. Why? Because strange things can happen when you have 20 people on one computer!
One such error that I encountered recently was when using Microsoft Office 2007 on a client machine. Whenever I opened any Office program, I received the following error message:
Error 25090. While installing Office, there was a problem with the Office Source Engine, System error: -2147023836.
After doing a little research, I figured out why this problem was occurring. Apparently, two people installed Office on the same computer, and then one of them uninstalled it. This can also happen if you deploy Office in your environment using Group Policy and somehow installs it twice.
Fortunately, this problem is easy to fix. Basically the setup files are corrupted due to two installations and then uninstallation. To fix this, insert the Office 2003 or Office 2007 CD into your CD drive and wait for Setup to start.
If it does not start automatically, locate the Setup.exe file on the CD and start it manually. When the setup window appears, just click Cancel. Click OK in response to any prompts that appear after you click Cancel.

This is it! Loading the setup screen fixes corrupted setup files and allows you to open the Office program without error 25090! Pretty simple huh? So make sure you’re not reinstalling Office, repairing, etc. Enjoy!
