So you’ve just purchased your new Amazon Fire tablet. You hardly used it. Then one day you press the power button and the Amazon Fire tablet won’t turn on. What’s happening?
In fact, this can happen for several reasons, from incorrectly pressing the power button to software problems.
In this article, we’ll go over the simplest and fastest solution to more complex tips on how to turn on and turn on your Amazon Fire tablet.
1. Hold Down the Power Button
One of the most common mistakes new Amazon Fire tablet users make is pressing the power button on an Amazon Fire tablet and waiting for it to turn on. Will not.

3. Update All Software
When you normally use your Amazon Fire tablet, it goes to sleep after a set number of minutes of inactivity. If there is an application running that prevents the Amazon Fire from waking up for any reason, it could mean that the Fire Tablet won’t turn on when it is actually just asleep
Why would an application do this? If any application on the tablet is out of date, it can cause unpredictable behavior like this. Therefore, it is advised to update all apps and see if that fixes the power-on problem.
To do this, press and hold the volume up and power buttons for 45 to 60 seconds. If the tablet was only in sleep mode, it should turn on.

4. Perform a “Soft†Reset
One little-known way to get a seemingly dead Amazon Fire tablet to work again is to soft reset the tablet.
What does it mean?
A soft reset is not limited to putting the tablet into sleep mode, nor is a simple press of the power button once. It will turn off the tablet completely before rebooting. Even if you missed the app update in the previous section, a simple soft reset might fix your Amazon Fire tablet not turning on.
To perform a soft reset:
Press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds.
If you see the recovery screen, it means that your tablet was not actually in sleep mode, but most likely it was already turned off.
In this case, you have several options.
- Cancel this and reboot the device.
- If you don’t have anything important saved on your tablet, select to perform a factory reset. Keep in mind that this will delete everything that was saved on the tablet and restore all settings to their defaults.
If you do decide to perform a factory reset, it may well completely solve the problem with which your Amazon Fire tablet won’t turn on. So you have to think about it.
5. Use the Right AC Adapter
Also, if you find that your tablet won’t charge, or your Amazon Fire tablet won’t turn on even after four hours, you might be using the wrong AC adapter.
AC adapters for tablets and smartphones look pretty much the same, so it’s very easy to accidentally swap them. If you try to use a different AC adapter than the one that came with the Amazon Fire, it may not charge at all.
Make sure you are using the original charger that came with your tablet. It should have the Amazon logo printed on the side.
This AC adapter is rated for 5W and 1Amp. Thus, any other charger with a different rating will simply not work, or the charging time will take significantly longer.
If you are using the correct AC adapter but it still won’t charge:
- Make sure the micro-USB cable is not broken or damaged.
- Inspect each end of the cable to make sure the ends are not broken or damaged.
- Look inside the end of the USB cable to make sure any internal pins are not damaged or missing.
