Fix Gboard not working on Android
If Gboard is not working on your Android device, there are several ways you can try to fix this problem.
Restart your Android device
A number of applications and processes run in the background on your Android device at any given time. Sometimes, some of these processes interfere with Gboard, causing the keyboard app to crash.

One way to fix these minor issues on your phone is to restart your phone. Restarting restarts all applications and processes that were running on your phone and the phone can recover on its own.
Clear keyboard cache files
Like many applications, Gboard uses cache files, so it can serve you faster by storing important items in those files. However, cache files are often the reason Gboard is not working on your phone. Removing these files from your phone should fix the problem.
This will not affect the application as your phone will restore these files when you start using the application.
- On your phone, go to Settings> Apps & Notifications and tap on Gboard
- Click Storage and click the Clear Cache button.

Android supports multiple keyboards on your device, so you can switch between them with the click of a button. However, sometimes this creates conflicts and causes Gboard to not work.
Disabling all keyboards except Gboard should fix the problem.
- Go to Settings> System> Languages ??& Input on your phone and tap Virtual Keyboard.
- Click “Manage Keyboards” on the next screen.

This will not affect the operation of the Gboard app or your phone.
- Reboot your Android device into recovery mode
- On the main screen of recovery mode, click on the “Clear cache partition” option.
Reinstall Gboard from the Play Store
If all else fails, the last resort is to uninstall the Gboard app and reinstall it from the Play Store. This will uninstall the application and its associated files. If the application had any problematic files, they will be removed.
- Install the secondary keyboard app from the Play Store if Gboard is the only keyboard you have.
- Go to Settings> System> Languages ??& Input> Virtual Keyboard on your phone and tap Manage Keyboards.
- Turn on the radio button for the newly installed keyboard app.
