How To Fix Discord Stuck On The Connecting Screen

If your Discord gets stuck on the connect screen, you can follow our troubleshooting guide to fix it. There are many reasons for this problem, which means that we will have to follow all the troubleshooting steps one by one until it is resolved.

We’ll start with the simpler fixes first, but we’ve tried to include every possible fix, so if you’re having trouble disabling Discord, you should fix your issues after trying each step in this guide.

Check for interruption issues

The first thing you can do when Discord hangs while connecting is to check if there are any current disconnect issues. If your Discord server is having problems, you won’t be able to go through the connection screen. Visit status.discordapp.com to see the current server status.

The page you see will show the past 90 days – you can hover over any yellow or red bar to see more details. Red bars represent disconnections and this may affect your ability to log in.

If there is a red stripe on the right or a maintenance notice here, it means there is a power outage today. You can visit Discord Twitter for updates, but for now all you can do is wait until the server issues are resolved.

Check the time and date settings

Choosing anything other than the automatic time and date settings in Windows 10 can cause some issues with Discord working properly. Even if the time may seem right, it’s best to double check that you have set the automatic time.

• First close Discord by clicking the Show Hidden Icons button in the lower left corner of the taskbar. Right click on Discord and choose Close Discord.

• After closing Discord, open the Start menu and enter the time. Click on Change date and time in the search results.

• Make sure that the Automatically set time and Automatically set time zone radio buttons are enabled on the new page.
• Open Discord again. If Discord won’t connect, try the next step.

Run a Malwarebytes scan

Perhaps malware is preventing you from connecting to Discord. You can download Malwarebytes for free and then run a scan.

Once Malwarebytes is installed, open Malwarebytes and click Scan in the main control panel. Wait for the scan to complete. If any malware was found, quarantine it and restart your computer.

Try connecting to Discord again. If Discord still can’t connect, try the following.

Stop Agents

You need to disable proxies to connect Discord, so follow these steps to disable them.

• On Windows, open the Start menu and type Internet Options.
• Click Internet Options in the search menu.
• Click the Connections tab, then click LAN Settings.

• In the Proxy Server section, make sure the Use a proxy server check box is unchecked and click OK.

Change DNS

Discord works best when using DNS from Google or Cloudflare. We will explain how you can change your DNS to Google.

• Open the Start menu and search in Control Panel.
• Select “Network and Sharing Center”.
• On the left, click Change Adapter Settings.
• Right-click on the Internet connection you are currently using and select Properties.
• Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 and a new page will open.
• Select Use the following DNS server addresses.
• Enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the first and second fields respectively.
• Click OK.

Repeat for Internet Protocol version 6, but enter 2001: 4860: 4860 :: 8888 in the first field and 2001: 4860: 4860 :: 8844 in the second field.

Allow Discord to bypass your firewall

You need to make sure Discord is allowed in your firewall for it to connect.

• To do this, press the Windows key and type Windows Defender Firewall.
• Click Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.

• On the right side of the new page, click New Rule, select Program, and click Next.
• On the next page, click Browse in the Program Path section.
• Browse to where you installed Discord. By default, this will be C: Users YOURUSER AppData Local Discord.

• Find Update.exe and double-click it.
• With the desired file selected, click Next and select Allow this connection.

• Click Next again, select all the Domain, Personal, and Public check boxes, then click Next.
• Add Discord as a name and click Finish.
• Open the Start menu again and type Windows Firewall. This time, select Windows Defender Firewall.

• On the new page that opens, select Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall.

• A new page will open. Scroll down and make sure the Discord checkbox is checked for the network you are connected to. If you are unsure, check both the Private and Public options. To make changes, you must first click the Change Settings field.

If you are using an antivirus with an additional firewall, you must also allow Discord on that firewall. This is usually simple and can be found in your antivirus software. If you cannot find it, please contact your antivirus support or seek help online.
