When filing a warranty claim or tracing a lost iPhone, you may be required to provide the IMEI and serial number of your device. Similarly, an Apple Support representative may require your device’s serial number in order to provide solutions for troubleshooting specific device issues.

International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) and serial numbers are two identifiers that help your device manufacturer and carrier networks track and identify your phone. Serial numbers are used by manufacturers to identify the device.

IMEI numbers are industry standard, which means that no two devices can have the same IMEI number, regardless of manufacturer. This guide talks about nine different ways to find IMEI and serial numbers on iPhone and iPad.

1. Use a USSD Shortcode

Open the iPhone or iPad Phone app, dial *#06# and wait 1-2 seconds. A “Device Information” card should appear at the bottom of the screen.

The card will display your device’s Embedded Document Identification (EID) number, IMEI numbers, and Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) numbers. MEID is the first 14 digits of the IMEI. It is used to identify devices using CDMA radio technology for wireless communications. You will find two IMEI numbers on the screen if your iPhone is dual SIM or eSIM capable.

Note. *#06# is a universal short code for checking IMEI and phone serial number, but its effectiveness depends on the carrier. If your phone does nothing after entering the code, your carrier does not support the shortcode.

2. Check Your Device’s Information Page

The iOS and iPadOS settings menu has an “About” section where you can find information about your device’s hardware. Here’s how to check the serial number and IMEI of your iPhone or iPad on the device information page:

Open the Settings app and select General. Click About. See the Serial number line in the first section of the page for your iPhone or iPad serial number.
