How to Enable Squeeze for Your Assistant on Pixel 4A.
One of the unique features of the Google Pixel is “Active Edgeâ€. This feature allows you to squeeze the bottom bezel of your device to launch Google Assistant and mute alarms and incoming calls. Unfortunately, Google has removed this feature from the latest Pixel 4a. Either way, you can use a third party app to get it. Here’s how.
Enable pressure to help you Pixel 4a
To activate the Sqeeze side-action, you need to download an app called SizeSqueeze +. This app is specially made for Samsung phones and you will find Samsung exclusive features like turning on Bixby, launching Samsung Pay, etc. But in terms of functionality, this app works great on any phone with a barometer sensor, including the Pixel 4a.
To get started, download the Side Squeeze + app from APK Mirror and open it. If you haven’t installed apps from a browser before, a popup will appear asking you to allow this source to download apps from the browser you are using. Click OK and allow the source to download apps.
Now install the app and open it. The app provides you with a welcome screen explaining all of its functions. Swipe left and tap Done to get started. Now it asks for accessibility permission in a popup, just click OK and it will be redirected to accessibility settings.
In the accessibility settings, select the SideSqueeze + option and enable the Use SideSqueeze + option. That’s it, you don’t need any other accessibility permissions to use the Google Assistant while swiping.
Now go back to the SideSqueeze + app, you will see another popup asking you to opt out of battery optimization. Click OK and disable the app in the battery optimization settings. This ensures that the application does not close in the background. Now the app also asks for various permissions, click Not Now and leave them. You don’t need any of these permissions to run the app.
Now you need to calibrate the trigger pull force. Let the strength parameter soften and click Calibrate. Now press “Start” to calibrate the squeeze action for your phone. It asks you to squeeze your phone three times to calibrate the squeeze action for your phone. In any case, it may take several attempts to successfully calibrate. Then click “Exit Calibrationâ€.
Now on the compression page, enable the one-shot compression option. Once enabled, you can see the “Primary action while enabled” option. Turn it on to select the action to compress.
Now you can see the dropdown menu, click on it and select the Launch Google Assistant option.
This is it. You can now compress and activate Google Assistant just like before. If you have problems with the compression action, try a different compression force and calibrate.
Packaging
Although the app works completely fine, the action is slightly slower compared to the built-in option in previous models. Anyway, this app also allows you to set shortcuts for double and long compression. And you can upgrade to Pro to even tweak, triple squeeze, quadruple squeeze, and long-double squeeze.
