How to Enable Cookies in Internet Explorer

Posted on October 6, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on How to Enable Cookies in Internet Explorer

Cookies are small files that websites use to store information on your computer to make it more usable for you by keeping certain snippets of information about your personal preferences. For example, a cookie might be stored with your username that you use for login so the next time you visit the site , your username may be filled in automatically. Other examples include storing information about user-selected color themes or personal favorite links.

Some websites require the use of cookies to function properly, so if they are disabled for any reason, you will not be able to use this site. If you receive an error that cookies are not enabled on your computer, here’s how to re-enable cookies in Internet Explorer:

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+

Select Internet Options from the IE Tools menu. In IE 10 and 11, you clicked the little gear icon in the upper right corner to see Internet Options.

This setting will allow basic cookies, but block third-party cookies. Essential cookies means that the cookies downloaded to your computer come from the web page you are currently viewing. Third-party cookies are cookies set by a domain other than the one you are currently viewing. For example, if you go to yahoo.com and a cookie from weloveads.com is stored on your computer, it will be a third party cookie.

You can also accept third-party cookies, but this is generally not recommended unless necessary for a specific website to work. To also enable third-party cookies, go to Tools, Internet Options and again click on the Privacy tab.

This time, click the “Advanced” button and you can check the box next to “Turn off automatic handling of cookies” and select “Accept” for third-party cookies.

Cookies don’t have anything else. At their default settings, cookies do not pose a major security issue that you should be concerned about. Usually, if you want to protect yourself online while browsing, you need to disable Java and scripting such as JavaScript. Enjoy!
