How To Download Your Twitch Streams 2021.
Twitch is the world’s foremost game streaming platform and many people aspire to be one of its stars. After all, who doesn’t want to make a living by loving and entertaining thousands of adored fans? However, building a large following on Twitch can take a lot of work and luck.
If you want to become a major Twitch streamer or just want to download your favorite game segments, you need to know how to download Twitch videos. It’s not as easy as it might seem, but this guide will show you the best way to save your favorite videos to your hard drive.
How to Download Your Own Twitch Videos
Twitch allows you to upload your own videos from previous broadcasts. This is perfect for streamers who want to upload videos to another service like YouTube or Vimeo, or those who want to capture the best bits of each stream to create a montage.
If you have a basic Twitch account, you have 14 days from the broadcast date to download the video. If you are a Twitch Affiliate or Partner, this time can be up to 60 days from the broadcast date.
However, before doing anything else, make sure the videos are automatically saved to your profile. Go to Twitch> Settings> Channel & Videos and move the Keep Past Streams switch to On. When you do, the videos will be automatically saved to your account at the end of the broadcast.
Any videos you stream or stream will go into your account. You can easily access them by clicking your account icon and choosing Video Producer. Once on the Video Producer page, click the three dots to the right next to the video title and select Download. After you click this button, it will take a few seconds to prepare the video and then it will be downloaded to your computer.
How to Download Other’s Twitch Videos
If you see a particularly fun broadcast that you want to show to someone else or just revisit in the future, it will be a little more difficult to download. Twitch doesn’t have built-in tools for downloading other people’s broadcasts, but the good news is there are many third-party tools out there for that.
Make sure you are not violating copyright laws or Twitch policies by uploading these videos.
KeepVid
One option is KeepVid, a service that acts as a free Twitch video downloader. All you have to do is copy the URL of the video you want to download and then paste it into the bar at the top of the page.
When you do, KeepVid will convert your Twitch videos to a downloadable format. The time it takes to convert the video will vary depending on the length of the Twitch video, but when it finishes, a small preview will appear as well as a Download Video button. Just click this button to save the file to your computer.
If you need more customization, all you have to do is scroll down a bit to find various video formats and audio options, including the ability to download videos as small as 284×160.
Twitch Leecher
Twitch Leecher is a free third-party app available on Github. The tool has a powerful search function built-in, but if you’re looking for a specific video and don’t know the channel name, you might be better off searching the Twitch website first. You can search by three different criteria: the channel name, video URL, or video ID.
Each search can be refined. For example, when searching by channel name, you can search for a broadcast, highlight, or download within a specific period of time. When searching for a URL or video ID, you can search for multiple videos at once. After performing a search, the results are displayed and you have the option to download what you found.
It should be noted that subscriber-only videos (available only to subscribers on a specific channel) cannot be downloaded using Twitch Leecher.
Streamlink
Twitch Leecher is a Windows-only tool, but there is a Mac option called Streamlink that serves a similar function. The problem is that it takes a little more know-how to use. The Github page for Streamlink contains a user guide and explanation on how to use it, making it one of the best options for Mac users who don’t want to use an online download tool like KeepVid.
4K Video Downloader
Some high-end streamers will be streaming 4K content. If you want the best possible video quality from your favorite streamer, you will need a 4K content download tool. 4K Video Downloader is a tool that works on both Mac and Windows and can download different resolutions, not just 4K.
To use the tool, you need to download and install the application. Copy the URL of the Twitch stream you want to download and launch the app. Select “Insert Link” in the upper right corner. A menu will open where you can select the video quality and then download the file.
There is a free and paid version of the 4K Video Downloader. On the basic unpaid plan, you can download 30 Twitch videos per day.
Other Options to Download Twitch Videos
A quick Google search will reveal a dozen or more third-party tools for downloading Twitch videos, but you should be wary of using anything you’re not familiar with. Many of these tools are sketchy, sourced from unreliable sources, and can put your machine and data at risk.
