How to Download Music on Spotify for Offline Listening 2022.
Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming services in use today. If you have a free Spotify account, you can enjoy a lot of great music content, but you also need an internet connection. With a Spotify premium account, you can download as much music as your device can hold and listen to it offline.
If you are new to Spotify Premium or have never used the offline listening function, this article will teach you how to download music to Spotify for offline listening. We’ll show you how to do this in both desktop and mobile apps.
Download Music on Spotify With the Desktop App
You can download Spotify for Mac, Windows, or Linux. The PC version includes an offline listening feature if you have a Spotify premium account.
Loading entire playlists
To use this feature, just search and select any playlist or album on Spotify. Find the small down arrow next to the green heart icon.
When you select the download icon, the Spotify app will start downloading every track in that album or playlist to your device.
You will know when these tracks are available for offline listening when you see the same arrow icon under the track name.
If you see this icon, you can select and listen to this song at any time, even if you do not have an Internet connection.
If you are using a laptop and traveling, this is a great way to enjoy your favorite music wherever you are. The most common use of this feature is to listen to entire playlists, even when you are flying. And for this you do not need to buy Internet access.
Download selected music tracks
What if you don’t want to download your entire music playlist to Spotify, but instead want to collect individual music tracks for offline listening?
Individual tracks in the desktop application do not have a loading icon, and at first glance it seems that this is not possible. However, there is a workaround to make this possible.
When you find a track you want to listen to offline, simply right-click it, select Add to Playlist and either select an existing playlist, or select Add to New Playlist to create a new one.
After all the individual tracks you want to download have been collected into your own playlist, open the playlist.
Below the playlist title, you’ll see the same down arrow icon as the one available in any of Spotify’s existing playlists or albums.
After all the tracks in this playlist have been downloaded, you can play any of them offline. You will know when a playlist is available offline when you browse a playlist in your library.
Open your library and choose Playlists from the menu. You will see a loading icon in the playlist available for offline listening.
Before you go crazy downloading tons of playlists on Spotify, just remember that every playlist you download will take up space on your computer’s hard drive.
Most modern computers have very large hard drives and a lot of free space. However, if you’ve already used this space for large games or a photo collection, your available space for these music downloads may be limited.
Download Music on Spotify With the Mobile App
You can download Spotify for Android or iOS devices. Listening offline via the mobile app offers maximum flexibility because your favorite music will always be in your hand wherever you go.
This is great if you go hiking, camping, or otherwise frequently travel offline. You never have to worry about running out of your favorite tunes.
Loading entire episodes
In the mobile app, you will find several options for downloading content for offline listening. If you see podcasts or episodes on the homepage that you want to listen to offline, just open them.
When the episode is open, you will see a down arrow icon to the right of the publish icon next to the Play button.
You can also download an episode or podcast from the menu. If you touch the three-dot menu at the top of the episode window, you’ll see the Load option listed at the top of the menu.
Loading entire playlists
To download music in Spotify playlists, just like in the desktop app, you need to download the entire playlist. To do this, open the playlist and you will see a radio button under the shuffle button.
Turn this on to download the playlist.
When you browse your playlists in your library, you can identify them by the green down arrow below the playlist name.
Select these playlists to listen to them anytime, even if you don’t have an Internet connection. These are the only playlists that will work offline.
Loading individual tracks
As with the desktop app, you can also upload individual tracks to the mobile app by adding them to your own playlists.
Just open the menu of the track you want to download and select “Add to Playlist”. Either select an existing playlist or select New Playlist to add it to a new one.
When your playlist is ready with all the tracks you want to download, simply open the playlist and turn on the switch to the right of Download. As a result, each track from the playlist will be downloaded for offline listening.
Filtering Downloads and Download Settings
There are a couple more things you need to know if you want to optimize your use of Spotify’s offline content.
When viewing playlists in your library, click the Filters button to open the Filter menu. Select Downloads to view only playlists that are available for offline listening.
There are also several settings in Spotify’s settings menu that allow you to customize your downloads.
To access Spotify settings, tap the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Spotify main window. In the settings window, scroll down until you see the download settings. The following settings are available:
Download quality: you can set the download quality from normal to very high. Leave the downloaded tracks at the lowest quality setting (Normal) to use the least amount of space on your device. Download using cellular: If you have a cellular data plan, you will want to disable this setting. … This will restrict the download of playlists and tracks only when your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network with an internet connection.
