iCloud Photos isn’t limited to iPhone and Mac. If you’re using a PC, you can use Apple’s Image Sync and Backup Services to access, download, or even upload your photos.
It’s not that convenient and easy compared to what you get on an iOS or macOS device. But you should still get a decent experience.

In this article, we are going to show you several ways to use iCloud Photos on PC. The first method uses iCloud Photos in the form of a web app, and the second method relies on the iCloud desktop app for Windows.
iCloud Photos on PC — Use iCloud.com
Apple offers many iCloud services in the form of web apps that you can access using any web browser on your PC. One of them is iCloud Photos, where you can view, download and back up your photos. It provides similar capabilities to the Photos app on a Mac, but its online orientation may cause performance degradation on slower Internet connections.
To open the iCloud Photos web app, first, visit iCloud.com. Then sign in with your Apple ID credentials and select Photos from the iCloud launcher.
Access iCloud Photos
The iCloud Photos web app lets you access all your photos backed up using your iPhone or Mac. You have two tabs at the top of the screen to switch between Photo and Moments view. In the first case, the images are displayed in a continuous list, and in the second, by date and location.

The sidebar on the left allows you to choose between the main list of pictures, favorites, media types (such as live photos and videos), and any albums created on an iOS or macOS device.
To view a photo, just double-click its thumbnail. You can then navigate between images using the arrow keys on either side of the screen.
The icons in the upper left corner of the screen also allow you to perform a variety of actions. The plus icon “Add”, for example, lets you add photos to albums and folders, and the Share icon lets you share individual or selected images by email.
Upload iCloud Photos
The iCloud Photos web app also lets you upload photos to your PC’s local storage. Just select a thumbnail image and click the Download icon in the upper left corner of your screen and it should automatically download in JPEG format.
You can also select multiple photos to upload by clicking and dragging over the thumbnails, or holding the Control key while selecting them.
But if you prefer to download photos in their original HEIC format, you must first click and hold the Download icon. Then select the “Unmodified Originals” option and select “Load”.
Upload to iCloud Photos
If you want to upload photos from your PC to iCloud Photos, simply select the Upload icon in the upper left corner of your screen. In the file selection window that appears, select the photos you want to upload and click “Open”.
ICloud Photos should download the photos (don’t close the browser window at this time) and automatically organize them in your photo library.
iCloud Photos on PC — Use iCloud for Windows
If you’d rather sync your photos rather than open them in a browser, you’ll need to set up iCloud for Windows on your PC. This is a free app from Apple that allows you to access iCloud services (such as iCloud Photos and Drive) on Windows.
You can install iCloud for Windows through the Microsoft Store. After that, sign in with your Apple ID credentials and complete all two-factor authentication prompts to launch the program.
To activate iCloud Photos on your PC, open the iCloud app and select the Photos checkbox. Then select Apply. You can also choose to use iCloud Drive on your PC, or sync Safari bookmarks and passwords with Chrome if you like.
Access iCloud Photos
To access iCloud Photos, select the iCloud Photos option in the sidebar of File Explorer. Then you must find all the pictures inside. Switch to the “Details” view and select “Date” to sort them from newest to oldest and vice versa.
You can also view any shared photos by going to This PC> Pictures> iCloud Photos> Shared. If you don’t see anything, open the iCloud app, click the Options button next to Photos, and check the Shared Albums box.
However, iCloud for Windows doesn’t have a dedicated image viewer or organizer, so you’ll need to use the Photos app in Windows 10 to view them. To keep things simple, you can add iCloud Photos as a source folder to the Photos app. Go to the Settings screen for the Photos app, select Add Folder, select iCloud Photos in the sidebar, and select Add this folder to pictures.
Upload iCloud Photo
By default, iCloud Photos tries to save disk space on your computer, so photos are only downloaded locally when you access them. Otherwise, you will only see placeholder icons. The cloud-like symbol next to the image indicates a placeholder, and a check mark indicates a loaded item.
To download the file locally without opening it, right-click the item and select Always Store on This Device.
Or you can right-click “iCloud Photos†in the sidebar of File Explorer and select “Always keep on this device†to download your entire photo library to local storage.
Upload to iCloud Photos
If you want to upload any photos from your PC to iCloud Photos, just drag and drop the images into any explorer window with iCloud Photos directory open.
Or you can copy and paste them into a folder.
The photos should then be downloaded and synced to your other devices with iCloud Photos enabled.
Start Using iCloud Photos on the PC
As you just saw, you should have no problem viewing, uploading and backing up photos with iCloud Photos on PC. Just pick the method that works best for you and you should be fine. Or, you can use a combination of the iCloud Photos web app (which is perfect for viewing pictures) and the iCloud Windows apps (which does a great job of uploading and uploading) for better results.
