You may not realize it, but as you watch more and more of your favorite TV shows and movies on streaming services, you are actually giving a lot of information about yourself.
This leads to Netflix “recommendations†(some of which are simply absurd) and your friends, who will learn about your browsing habits if they ask for your password.
I am still traumatized when Netflix offered me Spongebob SquarePants, so obviously their algorithms are not perfect. Plus, if your friends are REALLY watching things on your account, you will receive recommendations based on their browsing habits.
For example, in the screenshot below, I only saw one of the three (Better call Saul) and that was a few years ago!
Therefore, it is best to regularly erase your Netflix browsing history. This will also not ask the questions “Would you like to watch this again?” . You won’t get personalized recommendations, but I’m sure you can search for your own shows, right?
Delete your Netflix viewing history in several easy steps
Deleting your Netflix browsing history is a snap. You just need to know where to look for the correct settings.
– /
Click here to go to your account settings. Obviously, you will have to log in.
Scroll down the page until you see “View Activity “. Click on it. It is worth noting that clicking on “View Activity” will only show you the activity of the profile that is currently active.
If you want to see your browsing history for a different profile, first click on the dropdown in the upper right corner and select the profile you want. Netflix will take you back to the home page. Then click the dropdown again and select Account.
The browsing activity page is divided into two sections: everything you watched and everything you rated. By clicking on the tabs at the top, you can switch from one to the other.
Deleting data on Netflix is ??called hiding. To hide everything, scroll down to the bottom and click Hide All. It will erase everything.
But not before you are asked if you are really sure you know what you are doing. So you have a chance to retreat.
Remove individual items in your viewing history
If you are not going to use scorched earth and only want to remove individual items, then scroll down to the one you want to remove.
On the right is a circle with a diagonal line through it – click on it and the show name will disappear from the list. Please note: this time you will not be asked if you are sure and there is no undo function!
You will see a message that the title will be removed from your account within 24 hours. But whenever I remove the headers, the change happens immediately.
Final result
What happens after that depends on how carefully you’ve erased your browsing history.
If you erase all data, your recommendations will be reset, your place in the show (if you stopped halfway) will return to the beginning, and you will not be asked if you want to watch something again.
If you only removed one or two things, then the changes I just mentioned will only apply to those hidden headers.
It is worth deleting it regularly, especially if other people have access to your account. Otherwise, things get very confusing, very quickly.
