How to Delete A Microsoft Word Page.
Don’t be discouraged by page deletion issues in Microsoft Word. While it sounds like it should be an easy task, deleting a page in Word can be very frustrating. Even the most tech-savvy users can find it difficult to delete a page in Word.
The problem occurs most often when you want to delete a blank page at the end of a document. No matter what you do, you cannot delete this blank page. This can happen for a variety of reasons, but don’t worry. If you try the following suggestions, one of them will definitely solve your problem.
3 Ways to Delete a Page in Microsoft Word
Here are three ways to remove a page from a Microsoft Word document. If one method doesn’t work, try others!
1. Delete the last blank page in Word using your keyboard
This method is very simple and works most of the time.
- Place your cursor at the top of a blank page at the end of your document.
- Make sure there is nothing on this page. For example, there may be an invisible paragraph at the end of the text. Highlight everything you can on the blank page. An invisible paragraph is highlighted at the top of the screen below.
- Press Backspace to remove the selection.
- Press Backspace again to delete the blank page.
2. Remove blank page by removing page break
By including paragraph marks and other hidden characters, you can see where Microsoft Word inserted the page break. Once you know where the page break is, you can remove it. You can use this method to remove the last blank page in the document.
- In the Paragraph section of the Home tab of the ribbon in Word, click the Show / Hide button ¶ or press Ctrl + * (Ctrl + Shift + 8).
- You will now see all the page breaks that have been inserted into your document.
- Find the wrong page break and select it with your cursor.
- Press Backspace to remove the page break.
- Click the Show / Hide button ¶ again to turn off the formatting marks.
3. Remove blank page in Word via View menu
This method of removing a blank page from a Word document is suitable for removing any blank page, no matter where it is in the document.
- Select the View tab on the menu ribbon.
- Then, in the Show menu section, select the check box next to the navigation bar.
- Select pages in the navigation pane.
- Select the page you want to delete.
- Press the Delete key.
Troubleshooting Deleting a Page in Word
Sometimes Word adds a paragraph to the end of a document that cannot be deleted even if there is no text in it. If the above methods do not help you remove a blank page in a Microsoft Word document, here are a few things to try.
Make this last, invisible paragraph as small as possible
- In the Paragraph section of the Home tab of the ribbon in Word, click the Show / Hide button ¶ or press Ctrl + * (Ctrl + Shift + 8).
- Highlight the paragraph mark at the end of the indelible paragraph at the end of the document.
- In the Font Size box on the Home tab of the menu, enter 1. You are making the font size for this paragraph as small as possible.
Adjust the bottom margin of the document
If that pesky last paragraph still is placed on a blank page at the end of the document, you can try adjusting the bottom margin of the document to make room for it.
- Select the Layout tab on the menu ribbon.
- then Select Fields.
- Select Custom Fields.
- Decrease the bottom margin. You can try it gradually. For example, if the bottom margin of your document is set to 1 “, try 0.9” first.
- Select OK.
- If that doesn’t work, repeat the steps, decreasing the bottom margin until it solves your problem.
Convert the document to PDF and remove a blank page in progress
If all else fails, you can remove the trailing blank page by converting the document to PDF.
- Select File and then Save As.
- Navigate to the folder where you want to save the document.
- In the Save As dialog box, under Save As Type, select PDF (* .pdf).
- Select Options.
- In the Options dialog box, under Page Range, select Pages and enter the page range for your document. DO NOT include the last blank page.
- Click OK.
- Click the Save button.
You will now have a PDF version of the document without a blank page at the end. If you like, you can convert PDF back to Word.
How to convert PDF to Word
Converting a PDF document to a Microsoft Word document used to require third-party software and it was really painful. Word now includes this feature natively.
- Open Microsoft Word.
- Select File> Open.
- Go to the folder containing your PDF and select it.
- Click the Open button.
- You will probably see a message from Microsoft Word warning you that the conversion process may take some time to create and that, depending on the formatting and graphics availability, it may differ from the original PDF. Check the box if you do not want to see this message again.
- Click OK.
When Word finishes converting your PDF to Word, the Word document will open. Since you did not include this last blank page when converting from Word to PDF, the blank page will disappear from the document when converting PDF to Word back.
