How to Customize Spotify Playlist Cover Photos.
When you create a playlist in Spotify, you will usually see the cover art by default. This is usually a collection of album art for songs in a playlist, or a single album cover. While this may work for some playlists, you may want something that is easier to recognize for others.
You can select a new image on your computer or mobile device, you have the option to take a picture with your camera. This allows you to display any cover you want. Here’s how to customize the Spotify playlist cover art.
Tips for a Spotify Playlist Picture
When you select a photo or picture for the cover of a playlist, Spotify will access that image. So, make sure that you have the right to use the photo, that it does not contain inappropriate images such as nudity, and that it does not show personal information.
Currently, you can only change the cover art for playlists you create yourself or see when you connect to Shazam. If a friend shares a playlist with you, or if you find it in the Home tab, you won’t be able to change the cover art.
Please note that playlist covers are square and must not exceed 10MB. With that in mind, try selecting or cropping your image to uniform dimensions, such as 300 by 300 or 400 by 400 pixels. Also, if you save an image as a JPG, it will most likely have a smaller file size.
At the time of this writing, you don’t need a Spotify Premium account to change the playlist’s cover image.
Change a Playlist Cover in the Web Player
If you like listening to tunes with the Spotify web player, it’s easy to change the playlist cover there.
Visit Spotify, sign in and select a playlist on the left. When the playlist appears on the right, click on the three dots to see more options. Select Edit Details.
Hover over the current cover and select it. You can also select the three dots and choose Edit Photo or Delete Photo if you like.
When the browse window opens, navigate to the location of the photo or image you want to use. Select it and choose Open. You will then see your image. Select Save to make it the new playlist cover.
Change a Playlist Cover in the Desktop Application
You may have a desktop version of Spotify for Windows or Mac. You can customize your playlist art just as easily as you would on the web.
Open the Spotify desktop app on your computer and sign in if necessary. Select a playlist on the left. When it appears on the right, select the three dots for more options. Select Edit Data.
Hover over the current image and select it. Alternatively, you can select the three dots and choose Edit Photo or Delete Photo if you don’t need the cover at all.
In the viewer window that opens, find the photo or image you want to use, select it, and click the Open button. When the new image appears, select Save to make it the new cover.
Change a Playlist Cover in the Mobile App
With the Spotify app on Android or iPhone, you can select a photo from your library or use your device’s camera to take a photo. This gives you more options than on the web or desktop.
Go to the Your Library tab and select a playlist. Tap the three dots on the playlist screen and select Edit Playlist on Android or Edit on iPhone.
Either select Change Image or simply tap the current cover image at the top. Then do one of the following.
Use a photo from your device
Select Select Photo on Android or Select from Library on iPhone. Find and select a photo. Then, if desired, drag to adjust the image in the frame. Select Use Photo on Android or Select on iPhone. When you see your new cover image, click Save to save it.
Take a picture with the camera
Select “Take photo” and take a photo as usual with the camera. On Android, click the checkmark. If necessary, drag the photo to adjust it in the frame. Select Use Photo on Android or iPhone. When you see the new cover, click Save.
Whether you want your child’s smiling face, your dog’s tail wagging, or just a personal touch to find your Spotify playlist faster, you can easily replace the cover art.
