How to Customize Notification for Every Contact on WhatsApp.
Today is a lazy Sunday afternoon watching your favorite TV show. Suddenly you received a WhatsApp message. You jump up from your chair and rush to the phone, hoping this is a message from your love. Sorry, this is a message from your distant relative on the WhatsApp group. So, is there a way to customize WhatsApp notification?
Whether you want to be notified of an important message from work or a text from your loved one, setting a personalized notification tone on WhatsApp will definitely help. Well, I mostly use WhatsApp and I wanted to change the notification tone to something more lively than the default boring tone. If you are also wondering how to do this? Let’s find out.
Customize notification tone on Android
Unlike in the old days of AOL, changing the notification tone for a specific contact is relatively easier. Just open WhatsApp on your Android phone and tap the chat avatar to open a pop-up menu in the app. Tap the i icon to open the contact’s profile.

Scroll down the information page and click Custom Notifications in the list of options. You will see grayed out options on the page, with only one option active. Select the Use Personalized Notifications check box to activate all other options.
Now you can change the notification tone for an incoming message or call. WhatsApp also allows you to change the vibration pattern and toast notification for text messages so that you can reply to your fan even if you’re in a meeting (appointments are important, stay focused).
Tap on “Notification” and choose a ringtone on your phone. You can download it online or create it with a ringtone maker app. I would recommend installing a third party file manager if you don’t have the option to set your own ringtone. When the app asks you to select a source, select a third-party file manager.
Now find a custom ringtone and set it as the notification tone for your beech. WhatsApp will notify you with a customizable notification every time they text you. If, when you open text as it arrives on your phone, it seems like it takes a long time to download, you can enable high priority notifications that will display messages at the top of the screen and other apps as they arrive.

Customize notification tone on iOS
Like Android, iOS also lets you customize notification ringtones for specific people on WhatsApp. However, there is one caveat – you cannot select your own ringtone from the internal memory like you did with Android. You will have to settle for one of the few tones available or download it from the iTunes Store.
To get started, open WhatsApp on your iPhone / iPad and open the contact’s contact information. Click the Custom Tone button to open a list of tunes. From here you can choose from a list of available sounds.

If you don’t like any of the available options, you can purchase additional ringtones from the iTunes Store. The sounds will be displayed in your system settings. Go to Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down to Sounds and tap the selection to open Sound Settings. Under Sounds and Vibrations, tap Text Tone to open the entire list of ringtones on your phone.
Click Music Store in the Store section to view available music in the iTunes Store. You can browse through the different categories and choose your favorite tone. Make sure that the length of the tone is short, otherwise it may appear under ringtones instead of text. Buy a Tone and it will be automatically added to the ringtone list in settings.
Now go back to WhatsApp and select the new downloaded signal for the contact. This is it.

WhatsApp custom notification
After setting up custom notification sounds, you have a better chance of getting butterflies in your stomach, as you don’t have to worry about whether a message from your fan is sent or just random group text. Android and iOS have different features, so the setup process is slightly different. Aside from a few extra steps and dollars, setting up a custom notification is pretty straightforward. However, if you run into any problem setting the tone for your contact, please leave us a comment below.
