Tips for customizing icons in Windows 10
If you’re having trouble changing icons, make sure you do a few things.
First of all, when you are looking for icons to download, make sure you get them from a trusted source. Some icons may not be of the best quality, or the site itself may try to force you to buy something. Files can also be infected with malware.
In addition to the site listed above, you can also take a look at the DeviantArt site to find the icon artists directly. You can search specifically for “Windows 10 icons“.
Also make sure you upload ICO files. The download page for your icons should tell you or let you choose which format you download in. Also make sure you save them in a location that’s easy to find. Your best bet is to download all of your icons and then create a folder with them inside before using them.
If you move the icon file, your computer won’t be able to find it to use in the shortcut and you’ll have to redirect it to the new file location for it to work again.
You will also still see the arrow shortcut in the lower left corner of the app. If you want to get rid of them for a cleaner look, you can do so by editing the registry
If you ever want to get your icons back, you can always remove the shortcut and create a new one from the original application. Or, you can use the same method as above to disable the icons
