At one time, AOL had a great service that allowed you to create your own domain email address for free, and you could use any domain name you wanted, even if it was already registered. I have no idea how it worked, but after a while it disappeared and I understand why!
You can still create a personalized email address, but without payment, you can’t. The reason is that you need to purchase a domain name first in order to set up email for that domain. So, to get a personalized domain email address, you first need to register a domain. It also means that you are limited in what your “personalized†email address can be. If the domain is already registered, you will not be able to buy it and therefore will not be able to send email through that domain name.
Of course, if you really want to send an email from any email address, you can create your own mail server and send out fake emails, but then you will be a certified hacker / spammer and we are not going to teach anything like that. in this article.
So let’s break the process down and hopefully you find the domain you’re looking for. You will probably get what you want if you want to send a wedding email or something like that and want to create your own email address like invit@jackandkelly.com or getmarried@wendyandchris.com. If you want to send an email from tomandkate@love.com, you are unlikely to be out of luck, because love.com is definitely already registered.
Look for a domain
First, let’s search for an available domain. Remember that the letter does not have to end with .COM. Lots of new top-level domains have been opened recently, which means you could have a domain ending in .fitness, .investments or .photography.
The best site I like to use for finding domains is NameCheap.com It allows you to search for a keyword and then provides all the possible choices for that keyword.
Click Search and you will see four tabs at the top: Popular, New, International, and Favorites. In the example below, I’m looking for jackandkate to see what was available. Unfortunately jackandkate.com and .net are not available, but others like .rocks and .me are available! jackandkate.rocks actually sounds pretty cool. If you sent an email it would be something like wedding@jackandkate.rocks. The part before the @ symbol can be anything.
You can scroll down and click the View More Options link to see the other available options for this domain name. Also, some of them have a little lightning bolt next to their name, and if you hover over it, it will tell you about the restriction for that domain name. For example, if you want to get jackandkate.ca, you need to have a Canadian residency to get it.
If none of these work for you, click on the Create tab and it will show you the options available for all new top-level domains. You will immediately notice that they are much more expensive than traditional ones.
Once you find a domain you like, buy it and then move on to the next section, which will show you how to set up your email using NameCheap. In fact, read the section below before buying a domain from NameCheap because you can add 2 months free email hosting at checkout.
Set up email hosting
When you buy a domain, you will see the option to add email hosting to NameCheap, and what I really love is that it’s free for 2 months! For most people, the email address may only take a couple of weeks when sending invitations, etc. If you need it for longer, this is a very cheap email hosting.
Go ahead and click the Add to Cart button to get your free personal email address and it will take you to another page where you can select the email addresses you want. By default, it provides you with one email address for free which starts with admin@whateveryourdomain.com. However, you can simply uncheck this box and set a custom blank box at the bottom and it will be yours free. If you would like to use multiple personalized email addresses with this domain, it will cost $ 0.25 per address.
Now, simply follow the checkout process, during which you will need to create an account. When finished, click the “Account Management” button or return to the main page and click “Login”. Once you are logged in, go to the dashboard and you will see many links. You want to click on Open-Xchange email domains.
You will now see the domain name listed and you will need to click on it. If you bought more than one domain, you need to select the domain for which you want to manage your email.
Now, to set up your email, you first need to create a mailbox. I thought he would do it on his own, since I entered the desired domain name, but apparently you will have to do it manually. Go ahead and click the “Install New Mailbox” button.
Enter the local part of the email address you want, then enter the password for your mailbox and click the “Create mailboxes” button. On the next page, click the “Continue” button. Finally, click the Manage Subscription button to return to the main email screen.
Finally, you will see that it gives you a URL to manage your email. By default it will be just mail.domainname.whatever. So, since my domain is aseemkishore.rocks, I would go to mail.aseemkishore.rocks to manage my email. It’s worth noting that when you click on this link, you may get an error page because if you just registered a domain, the DNS settings must propagate over the Internet, which can take up to 48 hours. In my case it only took about 30 minutes and then there was a redirect to the mail client.
However, if you need immediate access, the link should be in the personal email you receive from NameCheap. Here is the URL to manage your email if you can’t find it:
https: //privatemile.com/apsoy/signin
Now you need to log in using the email address you just created and the password you just set up for this mailbox. In my example, my username is support@aseemkishore.rocks. Don’t use your NameCheap account login details, it won’t work.
Once logged in, you will see the mail client interface used by NameCheap. It has a clean interface and works great for most purposes.
Now, to send your first email, just click on the Write link and send! I sent an email to my GMail account and it came in just a few seconds. The great thing about NameCheap is that it also supports IMAP, so you can use Outlook or any other email client you want to manage your email. They also have the option to redirect all email from that account to another one if you like.
That’s all! It’s a small process and it will take you about an hour to complete, but if you really want a personalized email address, this is really the only way to do it. Of course, you can register your domain anywhere and there are hundreds of email hosting companies out there, but I just recommend NameCheap because I think it gives you the best value for money and is very easy to use.
