How to Create Custom Google Now Commands with Tasker.
Google now is a personal voice assistant for Android, like Siri for iOS and Cortana for Windows. You ask them a question and they will answer. Simply and easily.
I use Google all the time now. Sometimes it’s just a command like “Ok Google, set your alarm for seven in the morning.” And sometimes for something as difficult as “Ok Google, sync my fitness bracelet.”
But why use Google Now’s own commands?
When you say “ OK Google, turn up the screen brightness†or “ OK Google, turn off my phone†, it opens the display or sound settings accordingly, but not changing any values. You have adjusted them manually. Right?
But with Tasker and AutoVoice, you can automate pretty much everything on your Android device with a simple voice command. For example, in the example above, we can directly increase the brightness of your phone or turn it off. No need to touch the phone at all.
Here are some examples:
‘ OK Google, Battery status ‘ – Speak the current battery level
‘ Ok Google, who just called ‘ – says the name of this person
‘ OK Google, Selfie time ‘ Take a photo with the front camera, then open the gallery app to view it.
and my beloved-
“ Ok Google, sync my fitness bracelet †– open the Goqii app, turn on Bluetooth and wait while my fitness bracelet syncs. Then close the app and turn off Bluetooth.
Create custom Google Now commands
So let’s see how this is done. For simplicity, we will create a battery status profile.
# 1 Start by installing Tasker and AutoVoice from the play store.
There are now two versions of AutoVoice. One is free, the other is paid. The difference between both b / w is that in the free version you are limited to only 4 characters. So, instead of saying “Silent mode”, you can only say “Silent”, “Stop” or something like that.
And to be honest, it is practically useless. So either upgrade to the paid version (there is a 7-day free trial) or use Commandr for Google right now. In this tutorial, I will use AutoVoice for demonstration, but the steps are for both.
# 2 Then open Tasker and create a new profile.
To do this, click on the + sign Event Plugin Select AutoVoice recognized change configuration.
# 3 This will launch the AutoVoice application. Now click on the speech filter and then say the keyword that will trigger your task. In this case, it will be the “battery status”.
After that, click on the checkmark icon at the top, and then return to save your changes.
# 4 Next, we need to create a task for this profile. So create a new task and name it say battery percentage . Now under task add say enter “battery level” and then click on the little pencil-shaped icon and select the variable “battery level”.
# 5 Go back to save your changes and that’s it. Now when you say “battery status” to Google, it will respond with the battery percentage.
Obviously, this is just a simple demo of what you can do with Google and the AutoVoice plugin. I’ve seen people use it to automate their smart TV, Philips Hue lighting, garage doors, home security system, and more.
With Tasker, you can automate anything. The only limitation is your imagination.
