How to create a personal story in Snapchat.
Snapchat has always been about sharing content with multiple users at once. For those who don’t want to show their lives to absolutely everyone, the platform offers the ability to limit the number of individuals who can view their content by creating private Snapchat stories.
Stories are a great format for sharing your memorable moments with your social media followers. But if you only want to share your quick snaps with specific people on your friend’s list, learn how to create private Snapchat Stories.
Snapchat Stories in a Nutshell
If you’re new to Snapchat, you might be confused by the different types of Snapchat stories. To avoid accidentally sharing your story with the wrong people, here are the essential facts you need to know about Snapchat Stories.
There are three types of stories in Snapchat:
- My Stories. These are stories created by default when you add your pictures using the Story button on the home screen. Only your Snapchat friends can view them.
- Public stories. These are stories that any Snapchat user can see by choosing where you posted the story on the Snap Map. You can make all your stories public in your Snapchat settings.
- Private stories. Stories are only visible to friends you’ve manually selected on Snapchat. The rest of your friends, as well as other Snapchat users, cannot access your private stories.
How to Create a Private Snapchat Story
When you add a photo or video to your story, it automatically becomes visible to all your Snapchat friends. To create a personal story and specify who can see the pictures you add to it, follow these steps.
- Open Snapchat and take a photo or video you want to add to your story. Or select a photo from your Camera Roll to add to your story.
- Select “Submit” in the lower right corner of the screen.
- In the “Stories” section, select “+ Private Story” instead of “My Story”.
- From the Friends list, select the people with whom you want to share your new personal story. Then select “Create Story”.
You can also create a personal story on your Snapchat profile page. To do this, follow these steps.
- Open Snapchat and go to your profile page.
- In the Stories section, select + Private Story.
- From your friends list, select the people you want to share your new personal story with. Then select “Create Story”.
You can then view your personal stories in the Stories section of your Snapchat profile. Private stories are marked with a padlock and an eye icon appears next to them to indicate the number of users who can see your story.
How to Add and Remove Snaps From Your Private Stories
Once you’ve created a private Snapchat story, you can go back and edit it by adding additional pictures or deleting old ones.
To add snapshots to your personal story, go to the Stories section of your Snapchat profile. Find the private story you want to edit and select Add Snapshot. You can also select the three horizontal dots next to the story and choose Add to Story from the menu.
To remove snapshots from your private story, find the story you want to edit and select the snapshot you want to delete. In the upper right corner of the screen, find the three horizontal dots and choose Delete from the menu. This will remove the selected anchor from your history.
Other things you can do after creating a private Snapchat story include changing its name, adding or removing Snapchat users from it, and setting options to automatically save snapshots to Memories for later viewing. You can find all of these options in your private history menu by selecting the three horizontal dots next to it.
Other Types of Stories on Snapchat
While there are only three main story types on Snapchat, there are also collaborative stories called Our Story and Campus Story, which are mostly location-specific public stories. If you’ve ever wanted to see uploaded images in your area, you can do so thanks to a feature called Our Story. You can go to Snap Map and find different stories that people share in different places.
To access the Snap Map, select the location icon in the lower-left corner of the screen or swipe right from the Snapchat home screen.
Unlike My Stories, the stories you find on the Snap Map can be easily shared and uploaded. This means that if you decide to delete a snapshot that you subsequently added to Our History, there is no guarantee that you will receive it from the Internet. It may have already been sent and shared with other Snapchat users.
These location-based stories are also curated by Snapchat staff to ensure the content is relevant to all viewers. Campus stories are varieties of our stories that are campus-specific. If you live on campus or have visited in the past 24 hours, you will see them pop up on your Snap Map. This is a great way to bring a community of students together.
Make Sure Your Private Content Stays Private
If you’re not careful with the type of content you share on your Snapchat Stories, you’re bound to start getting invites from strangers, snapshots from random users, spam, and weird chat requests. To avoid this, make sure you don’t post any personal or sensitive information even when using Private Stories, and take the time to learn the best Snapchat privacy tips.
