If you have a small business, it’s likely listed on Yahoo Local, Google Local, MapQuest local, Yelp, and many other local service sites. I have a small computer repair shop at home, and in my free time I work here and there for clients.
I started this back in 2009 and started my business on Yahoo Local. I had no reason to change anything on my list about two weeks ago. I logged into my Yahoo account and could not remember my password. When I tried to recover my password, Yahoo told me that my account had been inactive for too long and that the ID is now being recycled! Oops!
So now what? I called Yahoo a few times, but unfortunately they couldn’t help me. One person got to the point where he told me it was impossible and that I would have to host my business on Yahoo local again. I was upset because I had accumulated a decent amount of reviews and it was painful for my business to lose all those reviews.
Anyway, at this stage I planned to just leave him alone, but then I thought that maybe if I tried to enter the same business information, the system would be smart enough to detect that there was already a business with the same name and address. Fortunately, I was right!
Therefore, if you have a Yahoo Local business created under an account that you no longer have access to, you can move that Local Business List to another Yahoo account by following these steps.
Claim and Yahoo Local Businesses
First go to the Yahoo Small Business page here:
http: //stalbusines.yahoo.com/local-listing/
Scroll down to Yahoo! Local Basic Listing and click “Details”.
On the next page, click the blue “Register Now” button.
You will now be taken to a page where you can enter your business information. At this point, you need to first find the company on Yahoo Local and make sure that you enter the name and address of the company as they are currently displayed on Yahoo Local.
If you copied everything correctly, then click the “Next” button. This is where the magic happens. Since the company is already listed, you can claim it under our Yahoo ID by clicking the radio button and selecting Apply for Listing.
Obviously, there needs to be a way to confirm that you really are the owner and not just trying to take over someone’s business. To prevent this, Yahoo will mail you a postcard to the company’s address with a pin code on it. Postcard delivery by post takes up to two weeks.
Once you receive it, you simply log into the Yahoo account you used to request your ad and enter the code. This confirms that you are the actual owner of the business and that business will now be associated with a new Yahoo ID. At this point, you can edit the list and do whatever you want. Hope this helps someone with the same problem as mine. Enjoy!
