How to Check if Your Login Credentials Were Compromised.

Every month we receive reports of thousands of accounts being hacked. We often wondered if he was ours? You don’t have to wait for the error screen on the login page to confirm this. Password checking is Google’s latest attempt to fix this . It tries to match your username and password from the data breach dataset, and if your credentials match, the Chrome extension warns you.

Install Password Checkup

To get the Chrome extension, go to the Chrome browser on your computer and open the Chrome Web Store. Search for password verification in the search bar or click this link.

Install the extension in Chrome browser by clicking Add to Chrome.

After installing the extension in the Chrome browser, the password checker searches the dataset for compromised accounts. Every time you log into your account on any website, it verifies your credentials. If your account matches the affected accounts, you will receive a warning and can change the password for that account.

Go to any website and enter your username and password. If the credentials belong to the compromised dataset, you will receive a red warning.

Fortunately, there were no warnings in my web browser. If you receive an error message similar to the one below, please change the password for this account as soon as possible.

Where did it fall?

Password checking right now only alerts you during the login process. Considering that all of your accounts are safe and secure, it is still advisable to keep the extension on your browser. It will notify you of compromised accounts when they are found.

Services like haveibeenpwned allow you to manually search your account and increase your chances of knowing a breach before any potential data loss. We can only hope that Google will add a manual search feature to your account.

We can never guarantee internet security, but we can certainly improve it. It is recommended that you set long and complex passwords for your Internet accounts. Don’t use the same password for all of your accounts, and I highly recommend you start using a password app like LastPass.

Is there a better way to protect your online accounts? Let us know in the comments below.
