How to change the Search Engine to Google on Edge Chromium.
I recently switched to Edge Chromium and found it to be even better than Google Chrome. There are many features like Reader Mode, PDF Reader and more, and they also consume less RAM compared to Chrome. However, Edge Chromium also has several issues, and one of them is the default search engine. It is installed on Bing. In this article, I will show you how to change the default search engine in Edge Chromium. Let’s start.
As with Chrome, you can start typing your request in the URL bar, click Submit, and Edge Chromium will search the web. Another way to search directly from Edge Chromium is to enter your query in the Create tab. Both have Bing installed by default, and we’ll change that.
1. Change the search engine on the URL bar
To change the search engine in the address bar, click the three-dot menu and select Settings.

Under Privacy & Services, find and click Address Bar to open options.
Click the drop-down menu next to Search engine used in the address bar and set it to Google.
If this option is not available, click Manage Search Engines and click Add to add Google. Enter “Google†in the “Search Engine†section, “google.com†in the “Keyword†section and paste the following URL string in the URL field. {google: baseURL} search? q =% s & {google: RLZ} {google: originalQueryForSuggestion} {google: assistedQueryStats} {google: searchFieldtrialParameter} {google: iOSSearchLanguage} {google: searchClient} {google: sourceId} {google: contextVersuald} {google: sourceId} {google: contextVersual} ie = {inputEncoding}
After you enter all the data correctly, they should be filled in and look something like the image below. Click Save to make your changes.
Google is now the default search engine. Anything you enter in the address bar will be done with Google. However, the home page and the new tab page will still use Bing. We will change this later.
2. Change the search engine on the new tab page
There are 2 ways to change the search engine on the home page. Both of these methods are third party extensions that redirect your requests to Google. I will list both extensions and their capabilities.
Change search engine in new tab with Chrome extension
This Chrome extension works like this: it intercepts requests that you enter in a new tab or home page bar, and when you press enter, it redirects the request to Google. To enable this extension, open the three-dot menu and click Extensions.

Enable the option “Allow extensions from other stores” in the lower left corner of the page.
Now install this Google Chrome extension called New Tab Redirection with this link and Add to Chrome.
After installing the extension, click the extension icon and you will be redirected to the configuration page. Click Grant Management Permissions for the extension to work properly.
We will now set Google as our default search engine. Click the New Tab Redirect extension icon and select extension options.
Add this URL below to the Redirect URL parameter and click Save. That’s all you have to do, and whenever you enter a query on the homepage or in a new tab, it will open a Google page instead of Bing. Carefully. https://www.google.com/
Customize your home page with an extension
The second extension is more powerful as it completely customizes the Edge Chromium home page. Install the Google Chrome extension called “Infinity New Tab” by clicking this link and add it to Chrome.
That’s it, your home page and new tab page are completely revamped. Now, we just need to change the default search engine to Google. Click the search icon on the home page and click the add icon.
select google and click the + button to add it.
You can click the icon next to the search bar to select any of the added search engines. In our case, select the Google option and it will be your default.
Packaging
I’m sticking with Infinity New Tab for now, but we also have other options like Momentum, Toby, etc. But they don’t have any search engine, but they offer various features like bookmark manager, clean interface home screen, etc. What do you think? Should you make Google your default search engine? Let me know in the comments below.
