How to Change the Default Browser on iPhone.
IOS 14 came out with some big updates like Back Tap, compact calling UI, Compact Siri, picture-in-picture window resizing, and more, but the most surprising addition is the ability to change the default browser on iPhone. This will allow you to set any browser as the default app for all iOS. Let’s see how.
Change the default browser on iPhone
It used to be impossible to change the default browser on iPhones prior to iOS 14, so every link was redirected to Safari. Now you can set Chrome, Firefox or any other browser as the default application. Start by opening the Settings app and scroll down to the browser app you want. In my case, I wanted to set Chrome as my default browser. Tap Chrome to open its settings.
In Chrome settings, you will find the option for default browsers, click it. Here you can click Chrome to set it as your default app.
Once that’s done, you’ll see the option to open any link in Chrome instead of Safari. For example, if you search for something in Spotlight, it will offer the option to open the link in Chrome. Here is the before and after image shown below.
Last words
This way, you can quickly change the default browser on your iPhone running iOS 14. Opening links in your preferred browser within the ecosystem is now easier than ever. Recently, iOS has been gradually evolving and opening up the walled garden with features that were previously explicitly prohibited. What do you think? What features do you want Apple to implement on iOS next time? Let me know in the comments below.
