If you want to uninstall Microsoft Edge from your Windows 10 PC, you should read this. In general, it is not recommended to disable Edge completely – it can cause unexpected problems with your operating system. Fortunately, there are still ways to hide this and prevent it from affecting your PC.
There is a reason Microsoft is not letting you uninstall Microsoft Edge. There are some integrations with the Microsoft Edge operating system that Windows 10 relies on. Following online guides to completely uninstall Microsoft Edge, you may encounter some unwanted side effects.
Instead of uninstalling Microsoft Edge, you can simply hide it from view and make sure it doesn’t affect your PC’s performance. Thus, it will not interfere with your daily activities.
Turn off all Microsoft Edge redirects
The first step is to prevent Windows 10 apps like Cortana or any links in the OS from sending you through Microsoft Edge instead of your previously installed default web browser. For this we will use the EdgeDeflector tool. It is a small application that will intercept any links in your operating system that would normally go through Microsoft Edge. These links will then be redirected to your default browser.
To use EdgeDeflector visit the Github page and download the latest Edge_Deflectorinstall.exe from the Github releases Once installed, open the Edge_Deflectorinstall file and walk through the installation process.
After installation, a pop-up window will appear asking how do you want to open this? Click EdgeDeflector. All Microsoft Edge push links will now open in your default browser. Want to check if it works? Press Windows Key + R to open the Run menu.
Then enter microsoft-edge: //example.com/ and click OK. This is the same URI used to send push links in Microsoft Edge, but EdgeDeflector should now fire and redirect this link through the default browser.
If you run into any difficulty, make sure you have actually set your default web browser. Enter Default Internet in the Start menu and click Choose Default Web Browser. Make sure you select the desired option in your web browser.
Hide Microsoft Edge and stop Bing searches
The next step is to uninstall Microsoft Edge on your PC. After that, I’ll walk you through changing the Bing search route. First open the Start menu and type Microsoft Edge. Right-click the icon in the Start menu and then select Unpin from Start and unpin from the taskbar.
By default, Microsoft Edge does not launch when you turn on your computer, so at this point you will no longer see a mention of it in the Start menu or taskbar, and it will not run in the background.
Plus, anything you do on your computer won’t open in Microsoft Edge. For example, typing a query in the Start menu and clicking the View Results Online button now opens the default browser. However, you may notice that searches are still open in Bing.
If you want to redirect your search results to another search engine, you should use the extension in the browser of your choice. For example, in Google Chrome, you can use Chrometana to redirect your Bing search to a different search engine.
Click the link above to install Chrometana as an extension. Click “Add to Chrome” to install it. After installation, select your default search engine. Google, DuckDuckGo, and Yahoo are available, but you can also click advanced settings to enter a custom web search.
After that, when you search the web through the Start menu or through Cortana, it will redirect through the search engine of your choice. The redirection adds a small amount of time to your search, but if you absolutely can’t port Bing, it’s worth it.
If you are using Firefox, I would suggest using Bing2Google. You can install Bing2Google by visiting the Bing2Google extension page in Firefox and clicking Add to Firefox. Click “Add” when the extension asks for your permission. The only permission it specifically needs is to access the URL data when visiting bing.com. He will not have access to anything else.
All Bing searches, regardless of their origin, will now be redirected to Google. This includes searching through Cortana or the Start menu.
