How to Break Bedrock Blocks in Minecraft.Bedrock is one of the indestructible blocks in Minecraft. However, it is possible to break the foundation without cheats or mods using bug exploits. The problem is that these bugs get fixed often, and old methods can quickly become obsolete. In this tutorial, we will explain how you can break bedrock in Minecraft, focusing on the latest version of the game, version 1.9.
Why Break Bedrock?
You may want to break root blocks in Minecraft for several reasons. For example:
- It can allow you to sneak into the ceiling of the Nether so you can easily travel long distances on the roof of the Nether.
- This can let you fall into the void in the Overworld or the Nether.
- You can use the same method to break blocks on End Gates, End Portal exits, and frames around End Portals in Strongholds.
However, since Minecraft moved from Mojang to Microsoft, updates have become much more frequent. This means that critical exploits are quickly patched and duplicate methods need to be found.
How to Break Bedrock Blocks in Minecraft Java Edition
To break root blocks in Minecraft 1.19+, you need to use a glitch that causes the piston to break the block below it when certain conditions are met.To do this, you will need the following blocks:
- 32 any building blocks
- 2 pistons
- 1 hatch
- 11 obsidian blocks
- 1 Jewel of the End
- 2 blocks of TNT
- 1 lever
- 1 flint and steel
- 10 ladders
Because this process is complex, it may take several attempts to be successful. So you might want to take everything you need with you, especially TNT.Note. This method does not work for Bedrock Edition. To break bedrock in Bedrock Edition, see below. Unfortunately, this means that for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and MCPE players, there are currently no reliable ways to crack the foundation.
Step 1. Get to the Lower Roof
Once you have collected your materials, the first step is to create a Nether Portal and appear in the Nether. To do this, place 8 blocks of obsidian in the rectangular shape shown below and use flint and steel to activate it.In the Nether, you want to reach the ceiling of the Nether. Just dig through the roof until you get to the bedrock layer. Here you need to find a place where the bedrock is one block thick. This is level 127 on the Y axis.To find this block, press F3 to bring up the debug screen. On the right side, there is a section labeled “Target Block”. Keep looking around until you find a rock block where the average (y-axis) is 127. Hint: We recommend taking enough blocks to create a second portal to the Nether if something goes wrong and you can’t return. Otherwise, you will be permanently stuck on the roof of the Nether.
Step 2. Teleport through bedrock
The next step is to use the Ender Pearl to teleport over the rock block to the other side of the roof. To do this, place ladders to get straight to the main block. Then take the ender pearl and look at the top right corner of the bedrock block and right click to drop it. Tip: Press and hold the Shift key to save your spot on the ladder without holding down the W key.Once you’re on top of the Nether, don’t move! You have to remember exactly where the one block thin section is.
Once you teleport, look straight down, jump and place the piston.
Step 3: Create the Mechanism
Now it’s time to build a glitch machine that will dig through bedrock blocks. This step includes Obsidian, Lever, TNT, and a Building Block.
- Place the obsidian block to the right of the piston.
- Place a building block on top of the obsidian.
- Place the lever on the side of the building block.
- Place the TNT blocks on top of the piston to the right of the obsidian.
- Place the hatch on the front of the obsidian.
Step 4. Activate the mechanism
The next step is to activate the exploit to destroy the bedrock block. This trick exploits a bug where when a piston is placed very quickly after a TNT explosion, it will destroy the block below.
- With the trapdoor activated (pressed against the obsidian block), stand next to it and right click. This should make you “small” by pushing you under it.
- From this position, move to the right and activate the lever. This will start the TNT countdown to the explosion.
- Until the TNT explodes, move to the left and target the upper right side of the obsidian block. Once the TNT explodes, right click to place the piston. The position of your cursor is critical, as the piston must be pointing down when placed. The timing also needs to be perfect, so it may take a few tries to get it right.
Tip: change the binding of the right mouse button to one of the keyboard keys, such as the Alt key. This way, when trying to right-click and place the piston at the right time, you can just hold the Alt key and hit the perfect time every time. You can also practice in creative mode before trying it out in survival or hardcore mode so you don’t lose any items (or get stuck) in your world.
Breaking Bedrock in Bedrock Edition
Unfortunately, there is no reliable exploit in the latest version of Minecraft Bedrock Edition. There used to be a few glitches related to villagers, bonemeal, end crystals, redstone, and more, but they’ve all been fixed over time. Hopefully someone will soon discover a new way to reliably destroy bedrock.
