The 2019 Shield TV comes with some major upgrades like the Tegra X1 processor, Dolby Atmos, AI scaling, and a completely redesigned remote. What I love most about the remote is that the buttons light up and activate when motion is detected. It not only helps you see the button better in low light conditions, but it also looks cool.
While this feature looks awesome and practical, it is obvious that it drains your batteries much faster. Some users may wish to turn off the backlight function completely. Luckily, you can customize the backlight (or even turn it off entirely) on the new remote. Let’s see how.
Since the remote control is the same for the Pro and the handset, you can repeat the steps on both devices without any problem. Grab your NVIDIA Shield TV remote and go to Settings, it’s the gear icon in the upper right corner, next to the clock.
On the Settings page, scroll down to General Settings and click OK on Remote and Accessories.
Go to the SHIELD Accessories section and find the SHIELD remote in the paired accessories. If you have multiple remotes connected to SHIELD TV, the parentheses next to the remote you are using will say “activeâ€.
Click OK in the backlight settings and you will have all the options that can be configured for your new SHIELD TV remote.
You can adjust the sliders to change the brightness and set the backlight duration. That’s not all, you can also set the trigger to turn on the backlight when you pick up the remote or press a button. This really comes in handy when watching movies at night. To enable triggers, slide the toggle next to On Button Press and On remote pickup, this will turn on the backlight only when you either press the button, lift it, or shake it in your hands. pretty cool right?
