How to Add Dropbox in Chromebook File Manager.
By default, you can only access Google Drive through the Chrome OS file manager. But if you prefer Dropbox over Google Drive, one option is to use the standalone Dropbox app on your Chromebook. While it works quite well, it lacks drag and drop support, making it difficult to transfer files back and forth. A better alternative is to use a third-party extension called File System for Dropbox, which adds the Dropbox folder directly to the Chrome OS file manager. Here’s how.
Add Dropbox in Chromebook File Manager
Open the file manager on your Chromebook and click the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Now select the “Add New Service” option and click “Install New Service” from the options that appear.
You will see a popup with all the available services that work with the Chrome OS file manager. Scroll down to File System for Dropbox. Now click on the blue Install button next to it.
The popup goes out to indicate that the service is being installed. Installation can take anywhere from two to five minutes. Since the installation process is a little glitchy, you need to manually close the popup after five minutes. There will be no indication that the dropbox is installed. If you’ve waited five minutes, it will install without issue.
Now hit the three-dot menu again Add New Services, you can now see a new option called File System for Dropbox. Click here.
In the window that appears, click the “Connect Dropbox” button to start the installation.
The Dropbox login page will open, where you can sign in to your Dropbox account or create a new account if you like.
Once logged in, click the Allow button to allow Dropbox access to your system files and folders.
That’s it, you have successfully installed Dropbox in your Chrome OS file manager and you can also transfer files between them by simply dragging and dropping.
Packaging
The Chrome OS file manager also supports OneDrive, but it doesn’t work or even open for many people. If you like it, you can also try it with the same method. Be that as it may, Dropbox works great with all the features you need, but it doesn’t have an automatic backup feature, you need to install the Android app for that.
