How to Access Yahoo! Mail using POP3 or IMAP

Posted on October 6, 2020October 30, 2020 By blog_786 No Comments on How to Access Yahoo! Mail using POP3 or IMAP

How to Access Yahoo! Mail using POP3 or IMAP. Since Gmail has always allowed its users to access their email via POP and IMAP for free, Yahoo was forced to provide this feature for free as well, although this happened much later.

Two-way sync means that if you delete an email in the Outlook client application, it will be deleted from mail servers as well. With POP, your email stays on your server and stays on when your email is viewed on other devices. Unless you have a specific reason, you should always use IMAP.

In this article, I will explain how to set up Yahoo Mail with POP3 or IMAP using Outlook as your email client. If you have a different email client, the options will be exactly the same, only in different places.

Set up Yahoo Mail in Outlook

Please note that all Yahoo email accounts are eligible for IMAP or POP access without having to make any changes to their account. In Gmail, you need to specifically sign in and enable POP or IMAP for it to work. At Yahoo, it’s just always on, which is probably not very good from a security standpoint, but there’s not much we can do about it.

Now open Outlook, click “File” and then click the “Add Account” button.

On the next screen, don’t be tempted to click on “Email Account” because I’ve already tried this and it doesn’t work. For Yahoo, you have to manually enter all the settings, which is inconvenient, so click on “Manual configuration” or “Additional server types”.

Then you want to select the POP or IMAP option and click Next.

The next screen is the most important part of the process. Here we need to manually enter all the server and login information for your Yahoo Mail account.

First enter your name and full Yahoo email address. Then select IMAP as the account type. Now copy and paste the following values ??into the appropriate fields:

Incoming mail server – imap.mail.yahoo.com Outgoing mail server – smtp.mail.yahoo.com </ pre>

In the Login Information section, make sure you use your full email address and enter your password. Please note, if two-factor mode is enabled in your Yahoo Mail account, you will need to generate an app password instead of your regular Yahoo password.

Then check the box next to Require Login with Secure Password Verification (SPA) and click the Advanced Settings button.

We have to make a few changes here. First, click Outgoing Server and make sure that the My Outgoing Server (SMTP) requires authentication check box is selected. Then go to the “Advanced” tab.

Here we have to change the IMAP port to 993 and the SMTP port to 465 or 587, you can choose. Then you need to select SSL for the type of encrypted connection for both inbound and outbound. Click “OK” and Outlook should automatically start checking your email.

It will try to log into your mail server and then send a test email. If everything is set up correctly, you should see several green checkmarks. If not, go back and make sure you entered everything correctly, including the password.

If you are sure you want to use POP3 instead of IMAP, you just need to change some settings. On the main screen, use the following values ??for the incoming and outgoing mail server:

Incoming mail server – pop.mail.yahoo.com Outgoing mail server – smtp.mail.yahoo .com < / pre>

In the Advanced Settings section, you need to use port 995 for the incoming mail server, but you can still use 465 or 587 for outgoing mail.

You also need to select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox and select SSL from the Outgoing Server drop-down list. Also, you need to go to the Outgoing Mail Server tab and check the box next to “My outgoing server requires authentication”.

After checking your email, you will see a confirmation window confirming that everything is ready.

That’s all! You should now be able to access your Yahoo mail in your desired mail client and sync it across all your devices if you are using IMAP. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to comment. Enjoy!
