Here Are Some Biggest Myth in Technology.
When I was little, I believed everything people say. Like the central processing unit is the body of a computer, cell phones cause brain cancer, Macs don’t get viruses and the like.
But as I grew and became more involved with the world of technology, I realized how many of them were myths.
Recently I posted a video – Top 10 Myths in Technology. While researching, I came across one popular myth and another not very much.

So let’s dispel the myth, okay?
1. WWW and the Internet are the same
This is a common misconception that has been around for decades. The Internet is over 50 years old, while the www or the Internet for short appeared in the early 90s.
When we use the word “Internet” we are talking about everything related to the “network of networks”. For example, when you send an email, make a Skype video call, or watch a YouTube video, you are using the Internet. Whereas you are using the Internet when you browse the website in your browser.
Without the Internet, there is no Internet, but without the Internet there will be Internet.
Truth: www is a kind of Internet.

2. Expensive HDMI cables are better than regular HDMI cable
If you’ve ever bought HDMI cables, you would know that they sell for any price. You can buy them for between $ 2 and $ 50. This page sells a $ 1,000 5ft HDMI cable on Amazon. But the truth is, all HDMI cables are the same.
In the world of HDMI cable, there are no grayscale, either you get everything or you get nothing. The surcharge for a gold-plated HDMI cable will not affect picture quality in any way.

3. Deleted files cannot be recovered
Many “not very tech-savvy” people believe that “if they delete a file from the trash, it will be gone forever.” But again, this is not true.
When we empty the trash or delete files from the trash, they are not immediately deleted. The pointer to these files is deleted. This makes our OS believe the file has been deleted. But your data is still on your hard drive, waiting for another file to take its place.
Truth: If you take action immediately, you can still recover deleted files with data recovery software.

4.1 MB / s and 1 MB / s are the same
MB / s means megabytes / sec and MB / s means megabits / sec. But since both in their short form sound the same, that is, “Mbps”. People are often confused.
When you copy a movie file from a flash drive to your computer, you see the speed in MB / s. But when your ISP talks about a 4Mbps internet connection, they mean bits, not bytes. However, the average user won’t notice the difference.
1 MB / s = 8 MB / s or
1 MB / s = 125 KB / s
This means that if you copy a 700MB movie from your flash drive to your computer, it will take 700 seconds at 1MB / s. But if you download the same movie from the Internet, it will take 8 times longer.
Truth: The units are MB / s for file transfers and MB / s for download speed.

5. Computer speed update
Growing up in India, I often saw people update their Windows computers. And it got me wondering if it makes the computer run smoother. But in reality it is not so.
So what’s the point of updating? Let’s say you renamed an icon on your desktop, but the effect does not appear. In such cases, it is helpful to update Windows.
Actually: updating does not improve your computer’s performance or make it smoother.

6. Open source means free software
Most of the open source software is available for free, and you can even modify and redistribute it.
However, this does not necessarily mean that all open source software is free. Open source is usually free, but not required. There are several open source tools (like Zimbra) and games (like Battle for Wesnoth), but not free.
Truth: open source doesn’t necessarily mean free.

7. Magnet can scan hard disk
A bar magnet can erase data from a hard drive – that’s a myth. Most of the magnets found in the home cannot harm our storage. SSDs are immune to any magnetic field, large or small. Smart cases also use a small magnet.
But this does not necessarily mean that our computers and smartphones are completely protected from magnets? If you place your computer in a giant magnet such as an MRI, it could damage your device. But for the little ones, you have nothing to worry about.
Truth: Only a strong magnet can damage hard drives.

8. Overcharging will damage the battery
When it comes to battery life, people often come up with their own explanations. So if you’ve heard rumors like “Leaving your phone on overnight can drain your battery,†don’t believe it.
Modern smartphones run on lithium-ion batteries that are smart enough to stop charging when they reach their full capacity.
Thus, overcharging will not damage the battery, but heat can. If you have a habit of recharging your phone, be sure to remove the cover from it. It is best to charge lithium-ion batteries between 40% and 80%.

9. Cell Phones Cause Brain Cancer
Everyone knows: “A cell phone emits radiation. But could it cause brain cancer? Well, so far there have been many studies and scientific studies to find out the effect of cell phone radiation on the human brain. And the result is contradictory. It is still unclear if mobile phones can cause brain cancer.
The only thing we know is that, although the use of mobile phones has increased over the past two decades, the number of brain cancer patients has not increased. I suggest you watch this video from veritasium for a deeper analysis.
Truth: It’s highly unlikely that a cell phone can cause brain cancer, but if they do, it could take decades to show its effect.

10. The computer is not multitasking
The computer doesn’t multitask as we think.
Simply put, a computer can switch tasks very quickly, which gives the illusion that it is performing several tasks at the same time. And the technical term for that is context switching.
This wiki page says, “On a single-processor computer, only one task is running at a time.”
Truth: computers switch tasks very quickly.

[Still Unclear Myth]
1. A laptop can make you sterile
Some think this is a myth and some don’t. Well, the truth is, nobody really knows for sure. Some scientific studies have shown that the heat generated by your laptop can reduce sperm count or even alter DNA. But many disagree with the experiment.
On the other hand, no one uses a laptop on their lap for a long time. But if you do, stop doing it. It’s always better to play it safe than sorry.

2. A cell phone does not cause a plane crash.
Many airlines do not allow phone calls while you are in the air. In fact, every phone has a special profile called Airplane Mode.
On the other hand, there are no reported incidents where a single cell phone would destroy an entire plane. Some airlines even allow you to use your phone while in flight.
But pilots often reported that the cell phone was interfering with the aircraft’s navigation system. Thus, a cell phone may not cause a plane crash, but it can cause serious problems.
Truth: A cell phone doesn’t cause a plane crash, but it can cause other problems.

3. Rooting is legal
There is no clear law that rooting your Android device or jailbreaking your iPhone is legal or not. The universal law does not work for everyone. Countries have decided if you should root your phone or not.
To complicate matters, I’ve seen these rules change as new laws are passed. Rooting Android was allowed a while ago, but you cannot root an Android tablet.
Truth: It depends on the legislation in your country.

1. Harmful WiFi radiation
No, they are not. People use Wi-Fi everywhere: in the office, at home, and even in hospitals. Wi-Fi radiation is non-ionizing, that is, it does not harm human cells and, unlike a microwave, creates little heat energy.

2. More megapixels means a better camera
This is the biggest myth in the tech world, but fortunately, people now know it’s not true. More megapixels means no more. pixel in the photo.
Just like a faster processor doesn’t necessarily mean a faster computer.
The reason isn’t just megapixels. Equally important are things like sensor size, zoom, aperture, shutter speed, processor.
Truth: The megapixel is not the only criterion by which you can determine the best camera.
3. Stream a YouTube video
Streaming is when you watch something directly on the server. Files are not downloaded to the local computer. Watching movies on Netflix would be a good example.
But contrary to popular belief, you don’t stream YouTube videos. You first download them to your computer and then watch them. Depending on your OS, you might even find videos in the system cache.
Truth: you download a video from YouTube and then watch it.
4. When the software is free, you are the producer
This is true for some online services like Google, Facebook, etc. when they collect data from you and sell it to an advertiser. But now it has become a tendency to apply everywhere.
There are still many free programs and services that are not sold to you. Wikipedia and Linux OS are a good example.

5. 100% security
In the world of computers, there is no 100% security. When we talk about security, we are talking about the time and resources required to compromise a system.
For example, to crack standard 256-bit AES encryption, you need thousands of giant supercomputers that have been running 24/7 for thousands of years. Now it’s time consuming. But in the future, if we can offer better technology than you, hack the system.
Truth: Given enough time and resources, any security system can be compromised.

The biggest myth in the world is that everything you read on the Internet is true. Anyone with access to the web can post their thoughts. But this does not mean that it is always true. So, as a rule of thumb, use your head. Don’t believe what you read. Always do your research from multiple sources.
