Among the most under-used and unknown features of Windows 7 is the Resource and Performance Monitor. It allows administrators to generate a system health report that indicates that a series of diagnostics failed. Learn how to check for errors in Windows 7 with the built-in resource and performance test.
Also, another great tool is Reliability Monitor in Windows. This will give you more information about the errors that appear in your event log. Please note that in Windows 10 it is no longer possible to run a system health report. Instead, go to Windows Defender Security Center and click on “Device performance and health.”
Create system status reports in Windows 7
Windows 7 comes with many support, help, and diagnostic features to help keep your computer running smoothly and error-free. However, some errors are not easy to fix and require more information about your computer to fix them. The Resource and Performance Monitor was created for this very purpose.
When you have trouble locating the source of an error in Windows 7, Resource and Performance Monitor provides detailed information about your processor, memory, network connections, and a host of other systems on your computer. The report generated by the application is organized by system, making it easy to view the report.
In addition, the report is generated in just 60 seconds and puts the most important alerts and information about the materials found at the top of the list. The report even shows the results of basic system checks, which show you where your computer passes basic diagnostic tests and where it doesn’t.
When your computer is behaving strangely and the source of this behavior is not obvious, Resource and Performance Monitor is an application that many administrators turn to for clues to the source of errors.

Create a system health report in Windows 7
To generate a health report, you must be logged into Windows 7 using an account with administrator rights. Then click the Start menu and type Performance in the Search programs and files box. Under the dashboard results, click the Performance Information and Tools link.
You should now see performance information and tools in the All Control Panel Items window. In the left pane of the window, click the More Tools link. In the Advanced Tools window, click the link below Generate System Health Report.
Resource and Performance Monitor will immediately begin a 60 second scan of your PC and start generating a report.
When finished, the application will display your report. Note that the most important findings from the report are shown at the top of the window. In our example, we found a symptom called Security Center did not register an antivirus product. The app also lists the cause of the symptom, two possible solutions, and a link to more information.
It is beyond the scope of this article to cover each part of the report as it is rather long and comprehensive. However, if you scroll down, you will see categories related to other aspects of your PC, such as:
- System Diagnostic Report
- Diagnostic Results
- Software Configuration
- Hardware Configuration
- CPU
- Network
- Disk
- Memory
- Statistics report
A largely unknown component of Windows 7, Resource and Performance Monitor can generate a report of your computer’s system health and help you diagnose and fix computer errors. This report, compiled in just 60 seconds, is invaluable to a technician who has already learned traditional error correction techniques.
