Fixed macOS Error You can’t open the application because it may be damaged or incomplete.
Poppies are powerful machines. Unlike Windows, they just work. You turn it on, do your job, and then turn it off. However, today when I was installing the OpenVPN client on my iMac (macOS Sierra version 10.12.6), I got a strange error.
How to Move a Half-Finished Download in uTorrent
You cannot open the application “application name” because it may be damaged or incomplete.
My first thought was to restart the device, and when I did it, everything went wrong. Now, I could not open any application even if the system application was not working. After doing a little googling, I came across this forum which recommends restarting your Mac in Safe Mode and doing all sorts of fun stuff. I usually like to troubleshoot software problems now, but not today. I had a deadline.
After hours of googling, I came across this answer from user Link Davis on the Apple forum, and surprisingly, it worked. And best of all, it only takes 2 minutes to fix everything. However, my experience was slightly different from what he wrote, so I decided to rewrite this release.
Fixed: You can’t open the app because it might be corrupt or incomplete
Note. Before we start, back up all data to an external hard drive. The next workaround is just one solution that worked for me and some other people, there is no guarantee it will work for you. So proceed at your own risk. Then follow the instructions.
1. Click the search icon and go to the top menu bar. Click Window Go to Folder
2. Copy and manually enter the following folder.
/ var / folders
3. A new folder will open, inside which you will see several subfolders, each with a two-character name, for example “4v, hr, tv, zz”, etc. This may be the same or different for you.
Now, according to the original poster, you need to drag all the subfolders except the one named “zz†to the trash. Do not delete the subfolder named “zz”. You will be prompted for administrator credentials.
However, in my case, I was unable to delete any folder other than “hr” and even it appears again when I delete it. But the problem was resolved. I don’t know how, but right after that I was able to open all applications again.
4. Restart your computer and this will fix the broken icons. You may have to log back into your browser and all your saved accounts, but this should be a big problem compared to what you just saw.
Overall, I’m still not sure what the problem was (possibly due to some important files being corrupted) and how this workaround solved the problem. But luckily it saved me all the tedious work and I hope it works for you too. Again, all credits belong to user Link Davis.
