Find out what WordPress Theme and Plugin a Website is Using.
So you’ve stumbled upon a new competitor’s website while doing a little keyword research for your own site. And this new website has a stunning interface that we don’t see every day. Now you want to know what themes and plugins work under the hood? (considering it’s built on WordPress)
Well, you can always check the header in the website source code to see if it works on WordPress or not. And if so, they are using WordPress as their CMS, then you can press CTRL + F or CMD + F on your keyboard and search for the keyword “ theme ” and it will tell you which theme they are using. …
But this approach has two main limitations.
1. It is difficult to see the source of a site on a mobile platform.
2. Many sites using a custom WordPress theme also often hide details in the source code of the website.
So, if you’re not the kind of person who doesn’t care about HTML; that is another easy way to check which WordPress theme and plugins a website is using. Whoiswp is a new online tool that can detect WordPress themes and plugins.
So how does it work?
Unlike checking the source code of a page, using WhoisWp is pretty straightforward. All it takes is three steps.
- Copy the URL of the website whose WordPress theme and plugin you want to discover.
- Go to whoiswp.com
- Paste this URL into the search box and click the “Search” button.
That’s it, in a few seconds Whoiswp will reveal the WordPress theme and its plugin.
Overview
We are testing Whoiswp on several sites and this is what we got.
This worked pretty well on most sites. For example, when I discovered the WordPress theme and plugins for RTT, it was able to identify the correct theme and plugin. .But the name of the theme provider (in my case it was Themeforest) didn’t reveal It doesn’t really matter as you can always google the name of a theme and see who is selling it.
On some websites, it could not detect any plugins, but when it worked, it worked fine. And we really loved their visit plugin feature; when you click on this button, you will be taken to the WordPress plugin page. Save time.
Summing up.
WhoisWp is a fast tool to find WordPress themes and plugins without worrying about them. Especially useful when you are using mobile devices.
Overall, the tool is pretty fast and does what it says. There is certainly room for improvement though. For example, we run it on the popular Howtogeek website, which is built on a custom WordPress theme. But Whoiswp said it doesn’t work on WordPress. This post is sponsored by Whoiswp.
