Want to improve the quality of the video of this funny dance that your friend just performed, which you captured with your smartphone camera? Today, with camcorders embedded in many mobile devices, including cell phones, tablets, and more, there is an explosion of dark, wobbly, dark and downright awful looking videos all over the internet.
Fortunately, there is a free online way to improve the quality of dark, choppy or low-res videos to make them look decent. You can always use video editing software on your computer, but usually, you will have to shell out money, use computer resources, or spend time learning the interface and functions of the new software.
YouTube has kindly provided its billions of users with a free video enhancement tool that does a pretty good job. To access this tool, you first need to upload your video. After that, click on your image in the upper right corner and select Creator Studio.
Now click on “Videos” in the “Video Manager” section and you will see a list of all the videos you uploaded. Go ahead and click on the little down arrow next to the Edit button and click Enhancements.
Now you can make some simple but useful adjustments to your video. You can click Auto Correction and the lighting and color will be adjusted automatically. You can also manually control the fill light, contrast, saturation and color temperature of the video.
To fix shaky video, click the Stabilize button. The stabilization feature is really amazing and works better than I expected. If you have a shaky video then you should definitely run it through YouTube booster.
On the first screen, you can also add slow motion to the video up to 8x, but the effect is applied to the entire video, which is a little annoying. You can click the Trim button to remove parts at the beginning or end of the video.
If you click Filters, you can apply one of many filters to your video. You can only apply one filter to a video at a time, and the filter will be applied to the entire clip.
Finally, in the Special Effects section, you can blur all the faces in the video, which is a pretty handy feature. At the moment, this is the only special effect you can apply to your videos. Hopefully they’ll add more later.
That’s all you can do in the YouTube enhancements section, but there are a few more options you can do when using the YouTube video editor. In fact, you will see a button at the bottom suggesting that you use this tool to combine multiple clips.
Now drag the clip to the video strip at the bottom and select it. On the right side, you will see some of the same fixes with some additions. Here you can pan and zoom, which was not the case in the improvements.
If you click on Text, you can add text to your video and customize the font family, size, color, position, and more.
In the Audio section, you can adjust volume, pan, bass and treble. Little, but better than nothing.
Overall, YouTube’s free tools do an excellent job of solving some of the biggest and most common problems with videos captured by consumer and smartphone cameras.
