Don’t See 4K at 60 FPS Record Video Option on iPhone 8 Plus/X?.
Have you just bought your shiny new iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X? I also! Well, the first thing I did was change my settings so that I could record videos in amazing 4K resolution at 60fps! By default, Apple only sets 1080 @ 60fps, which is not bad, but you should really record everything in 4K if you can.
What’s more surprising is that the default slow motion recording is set to only 720p at 240fps! It doesn’t suit me at all. So I hit Record Video and I was really surprised when I didn’t see any 4K / 60fps options!
It’s the same with slo-mo settings. It only had 1080p at 120fps instead of 240fps. Where in the world are the higher resolution options !?

Luckily, I happened to click on Formats (from the first screenshot) and saw the iPhone 8 Plus set to Most Compatible. Directly below it, it is clearly stated that if you use the most compatible one, it will use the JPEG and H.264 formats, but it will drop 4K 60fps and 1080p 240fps recording options.
Oh! I chose High Efficiency which uses HEIF and HEVC and the options are back!
A higher resolution option was also available for slow motion video. So, if higher resolution options are missing on your iPhone 8 or iPhone X, now you know why. Just change the format of the posts and they’ll come back. Enjoy!
