With the Windows 10 update, there’s a new Windows Defender Security Center. It is more functional than previous versions and has additional features such as SmartScreen filter and parental control system. It also manages Windows Firewall, a program that protects you from outside threats.
Due to its multifunctional nature, you should be wondering if you need a third-party antivirus and security suite to protect against various threats. Is Windows Defender enough for your security?
The short answer is
If you’re looking for a top-notch antivirus, Windows 10 has already taken care of you. This version can protect you, especially if you frequently download files from social networks or websites.
This is because the people behind this have acknowledged past cybersecurity threats. After that, they came up with a way to solve them.
Windows Defender Security Center provides continuous and comprehensive security. With it, you don’t need to install other security software to protect your system. It is designed to improve the security of Windows 10 users as well as users of Surface devices such as Surface Pro 3 and 4.
Here are two examples of how Windows Defender can protect your system.

How to set up data execution prevention
There is a type of attack that can cause an attack on your operating system, despite the difficulty of finding the elements that are necessary for success. This is because this attack involves memory access to certain elements.
So the solution is to customize the way the data is executed. The idea is to prevent code from running from data-only memory pages.
In Windows 10, you can find settings for Data Execution Prevention. In previous releases of Windows, you could not find these and some other protection settings.
The advantage of having it is that you can use it to make life difficult for malware authors. What you can do is configure it to completely eliminate attacks that hide malicious code.
To get started, press the Windows key and launch Windows Defender Security Center.
There go to Application & Browser Management.
Scroll down to the Exploit Protection section. Click Exploit Protection Settings.
In the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) section, select On. It may already be enabled by default. But if it isn’t, you can change it here.
How to set up ransomware protection
Ransomware is malware that can infiltrate your system and block access to authorized users. In such a cyber attack, the invasion will only stop after you pay the ransom.
Luckily, Windows 10 can improve your security against these kinds of threats. The latest version of Windows Defender is built to protect against ransomware. But ransomware protection is not enabled by default. So it’s up to you to turn it on.
Tap the Windows key and launch Windows Defender Security Center.
Go to the Virus & Threat Protection section.
Scroll down until you find Ransomware Protection. Open this section.
Look for Controlled Folder Access. Now turn it on.
