Disney Plus not working on Fire TV? Try These 8 Fixes.Disney+ crashing or freezing on your Amazon Fire TV? Does the Disney+ app show error messages when I try to stream movies and shows? Are you experiencing audio/video lag when streaming Disney+? The troubleshooting steps in this guide should ensure Disney+ runs smoothly on your Fire TV.
1. Check your internet connection
Your connection speed directly impacts the quality and performance of your Disney+ streaming experience. An unstable, slow, or inconsistent Internet connection can cause video buffering, audio lag, and other streaming problems. Connection issues can also cause several Disney+ error codes that prevent you from streaming movies or shows.Disney+ recommends download speeds of 5.0 Mbps for high-definition (HD) content and 25.0 Mbps for 4K content. Visit fast.com or speedest.net in your Fire TV web browser or any device connected to your network.
Restart or reset your Wi-Fi router if your download speeds drop below Disney+’s recommendations for the quality of the content you’re streaming. Switch to a lower video quality or contact your ISP if your connection speed still does not meet the recommendations.Switch to a different Wi-Fi network with faster download speeds that meet Disney+ recommendations.
2. Check server downtime
There’s likely an issue with the Disney Plus servers if the streaming app isn’t working on your Fire TV and other supported devices. Check the Disney+ status page on Downdetector for possible server downtime or outages.Server outages are often resolved quickly, so Disney+ should be back up and running on your Fire TV soon. Please contact the Disney+ Help Center if server downtime continues for several hours.Disney+ may also temporarily restrict access to the streaming service if it detects suspicious activity (such as repeated failed login attempts) from your IP address. Likewise, the streaming service will sometimes display certain error codes if it receives unusually high traffic from your IP address or to a certain movie title.Restart your Fire TV and router if you continue to receive one of the following error messages:
- Due to high volume of requests, we have temporarily limited traffic from your IP address. Please try again later (error code 91).
- Due to the high volume of requests, we have temporarily limited traffic from your IP address. Please try again later (error code 92).
- Sorry, we are unable to play the video you requested. Please try again. If the issue persists, please contact Disney+ Support (Error Code 41).
3. Force close and restart Disney Plus
Forcing the faulty application to close may return it to working properly. Force quit Disney+ if the app occasionally or constantly freezes or crashes on your Fire TV.
- Select the gear icon in the top right corner of the Fire TV home screen.
- Select Applications from the Settings menu.
- Select Manage installed applications.
- Select Force Stop to close the Disney Plus app.
- Wait 5-10 seconds and select Launch app to open Disney+ Plus again.
4. Restart Fire TV
Rebooting your Fire TV can resolve temporary system crashes and app crashes. Restarting your device also frees up memory for apps to run smoothly.Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Restart and select Restart on the confirmation screen.
You can also initiate a system reboot using a remote shortcut. Press and hold the Select and Play/Pause buttons on the Fire TV Remote for 3- 5 second.
Release both buttons when the screen says “Your Amazon Fire TV is turning off.”Perform a hard reset if you can’t find your Fire TV remote or if you have a faulty remote. Unplug your Fire TV device from the power source and wait 10-30 seconds.Reconnect your streaming device to a power source, wait for it to boot, and check if Disney+ works without problems.
5. Clear cache and data Disney+
The Disney+ app may not function properly if its cache files are corrupted. Force close Disney+, clear the cache file, and restart the app. If the issue persists, delete your Disney+ data and restart the app.Note: Deleting Disney+ data from your Fire TV removes settings, files, and app account information.
- Go to Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications and select Disney+.
- Select Clear cache.
Open Disney Plus again and try streaming a movie or show. Clear app data (see step 3) if the problem persists.
- Select Clear data.
- Select Clear data again on the confirmation screen.
Open Disney+ again, log in to your Disney Plus account and check if the app works smoothly.
6. Update the Disney+ app
You may have problems streaming Disney+ if you have an outdated version of the app. Follow these steps to update Disney Plus to the latest version in the Fire TV app store.
- Open the App Store app from the Fire TV home screen.
- Go to the Application Library tab and open the Installed on this section TV category.
- Go to the Disney+ app icon and press the menu button on the Fire TV Remote.
- You’ll see an Update option in the menu if a new version of Disney+ is available for your Fire TV. Select Update to install the latest version of Disney+ on your device.
We recommend turning on Automatic Updates on your Fire TV so that it automatically updates Disney+ and any legacy apps.
Fire TV devices with outdated or buggy software may experience problems running certain apps. Amazon frequently releases Fire OS updates that fix system crashes and app issues. Go to the Fire TV settings menu and install any update available for your Fire TV.Connect your Fire TV to the Internet and go to Settings > My Fire TV > About the program. Select Check for updates and wait while your Fire TV downloads any available update.
If your Fire TV has downloaded an update in the background, select Install update to start the update.
The software update may take up to 30 minutes, depending on the size of the update, Fire TV model, and Internet speed. Open Disney+ after updating and check if updating your Fire TV solved the problem.

8. Reinstall Disney Plus
Uninstall Disney+ from your Fire TV and reinstall the app if the app is malfunctioning after following the above fixes.Go to Settings > Applications > Manage installed applications > Disney+ and select Uninstall. Select Confirm on the confirmation screen to remove the application.
Reboot your Fire TV and reinstall Disney+ from the Amazon App Store or download the APK from third-party sources.
Resume Disney+
You should also consider resetting your Fire TV to factory settings if Disney+ (and other streaming apps) aren’t working after following the troubleshooting steps above.Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Factory Reset and select Reset on the confirmation screen. Resetting your Fire TV removes everything (apps, settings, saved networks, downloaded files, etc.) on the streaming device and disconnects it from your Amazon account.Set up your device after restarting (see How to Set Up Amazon Fire TV) and install Disney+.
