You can set a different wallpaper for each monitor using the Settings app or a third-party solution.
Set Different Wallpaper on Each Monitor via Settings
The Settings app in Windows 10 lets you customize and customize your operating system. If you just want a different wallpaper on each monitor, you can use the Settings app.
- Select Start> Settings.
- Select Personalization.
- First Select Background.
- You can choose wallpaper from images provided by the system, or use your own from your device. Right-click the background image under Select Image.
- Then select Set for monitor 1 and then select another image and select Set for monitor 2 and any other monitor.
Note. Monitor 1 is the main monitor. If you want specific wallpapers for your primary display, select Set to Monitor 1.

- The Fit and Fill options let you enlarge or reduce the image vertically or horizontally.
- The Center option allows you to center the wallpaper on the screen.
- Stretch stretches it to fill the screen.
- Select Tile if you want to display the wallpaper as multiple tiles on the screen.
- Select Spread if you have a high resolution panoramic image and want it to appear on all screens.
Windows will set the wallpaper as the default image on all desktops.
How to Set Different Wallpaper on Each Monitor via File Explorer
Setting a different wallpaper on each monitor using File Explorer is not as intuitive as using the Settings app, but can come in handy when the Settings dialog does not open in Windows 10.
If the images you have selected do not match the resolution of your monitors, they may not work correctly or change position arbitrarily.
- Open File Explorer, navigate to the folder containing the images you want to add as wallpaper for each monitor, and select images.
- Right-click the image you want to use on your primary monitor and select Set As Desktop Background.
Windows will set the images as wallpaper on your primary monitor, but it will also place two other wallpapers, randomly selected by you, on the secondary and third monitors.
- take control of the wallpaper, deselect the images in the explorer and select one image.
- Right-click and select the monitor to which you want to assign wallpaper.
How to Set Different Wallpaper on Each Monitor Using a Third-Party Solution
If you want to use a different wallpaper on each of your screens, you can use the following third-party tools instead of the default Windows 10 wallpaper settings.
- Dual Monitor Tools is a standalone open source tool. source code that can be used to control two monitors. You can have one image to be displayed on screens, or different images for each monitor. If your primary monitor is not the topmost or leftmost screen, the Dual Monitor Tools adjust the images correctly for the correct display.
- DisplayFusion is another freeware multi-monitor software that combines several settings an including resizable wallpapers and multi-monitor taskbars, and makes it easier to manage windows on screens.
- John’s Background Switcher allows you to set different wallpapers on monitors. You can tell the program where to get the images from and how to display them at the time interval you choose.
