Create a WiFi hotspot from Android which is already connected to WiFi

Create a WiFi hotspot from Android which is already connected to WiFi.

Imagine the following situations:

1. You went to an airport or hotel where you need a username and password to enter the Wi-Fi. Now, if friends come to you or you have multiple devices, they cannot access the Internet.

2. Your laptop is not receiving a proper signal in one part of your house, but your smartphone is receiving a signal and now you want to use your Android smartphone as a WiFi repeater.

3. You want to connect multiple devices to the same Wi-Fi network for file sharing, but you don’t have a router.

All three problems can be solved if you can simply create a Wi-Fi hotspot on Android that is already connected to a Wi-Fi network. But there is one big problem – due to Android restrictions, you cannot share Wi-Fi when connected to a Wi-Fi network. Yes, Android comes with a Portable WiFi Hotspot option that creates a new Wi-Fi hotspot when turned on. But the main thing here is that you can share the internet from your mobile data to Wi-Fi.

Fortunately, there is a way to turn your Android into a WiFi repeater. This means that your Android is connected to a Wi-Fi network and you can create a hotspot using the same Wi-Fi network. And both devices will be able to use the Internet at the same time. So, the next time you visit a hotel or airport where you are only given internet access on one device, with this workaround, you can turn your Android smartphone as a Wi-Fi repeater and access the internet on multiple devices. There is no need to rely on mobile data, the speed is also quite high.

How it works

Well, the trick is pretty simple, all you need is the app and basic network configuration and that’s it. But first, let’s figure out what the problem is and how this app works.

The reason Android does not have a default setting for activating a WiFi repeater is to restrict the Android network adapter, it does not allow you to create two connections at the same time, that is, if you try to create a hotspot while WiFi is on, the Android system will automatically turn off WiFi. Fi.

And an app called NetShare no root tethering bypasses that limitation effectively. First, a workgroup is created that accepts other devices on the same network. Please note that the other device does not have Internet access at this time. Now, in order to share the Internet, the application creates a VPN on Android, to which you will need to connect from another device. After you enter the proxy settings on the second device, it will redirect all Internet traffic through your device, thereby gaining access to the Internet.

Let’s see how to set up and get it to work.

Install and configure NetShare

1. From your Android smartphone, go to the Google Play store and download NetShare without root tethering. This application is shareware and, as the name suggests, does not require ROOT access.

2. Then open the application, turn it on and that’s it. This will create a new Wi-Fi network with a complex Wi-Fi name and password. Most of you will think about changing your network name and password, but unfortunately, you cannot. Due to Android restrictions, you cannot change the Wi-Fi name or password (as you do for a Wi-Fi hotspot). Remember the Wi-Fi name and password, we will need to connect to it from other devices.

Now the steps are slightly different for different platforms – let’s start with Windows first.

Share WiFi from Android to Windows

1. Open your Windows PC and connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot labeled – DIRECT-Android and enter the password you saw in the app in step 2. If you open your browser now, you won’t be able to do this. see access the internet even if you are connected to a network. To fix this, you need to configure the proxy IP address.

5. Save your changes and close the windows. Now, if you go into a browser and start searching for something, you will have full Internet access. The speed you get here will be the original speed of your Wi-Fi and you will be able to use the Internet on both devices at the same time.

Bypass: Use your Android device as a WiFi repeater

I tried the Netshare app on my Google Pixel and Redmi 4 as my normal internet source for my workstation, it works flawlessly. Battery drain was also minimal. If you’ve ever seen a connection issue, just restart the app and it should work fine again. However, searching for comments on the play store reveals that the apps don’t work on some low-cost Android smartphones.

And the biggest bomb is that after the trial period, the app will stop working with https traffic, and since Google only works with https, this effectively means that your internet will stop working after using some data. The only way to fix that is to upgrade to the Pro plan, which can cost around $ 6. And that’s a lot, don’t forget that for $ 20 you can buy a physical Wi-Fi repeater.

Update: Developer Netshare contacted us and they are considering providing 10 free minutes of HTTPS connection per session. See screenshot below.
